Since it is a deserted island there is no electric so cd is out, laptop will go blank in 2 hours on battery,No need for a modem,no electric, so it would be a bow saw, Lynn's ol reliable as mine doesn't carve as good as his,Flint th start a fire. Ya got to have fire to purify water. Wood, whatever the island has!
Learned in Scouting when I was young, a bow saw can get more wood cut than an ax.
That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Well, I would take the wood in the form of a large boat, for tools, a cell phone, some fuel, and some food.........Bon Voyage!

I assumed that it was a deserted island by the title of desert island. But then it could mean sand and heat which again isn't good for a laptop or a modem nor would they be wood so maybe I would trade in the bow saw for a shovel to dig fer water eh?Jester

Just playing the game!

Assuming this is an island with trees, then a machete, pocket chain saw, and a whittler with a wharncliffe blade, two pen blades. I'll cut wood for whittling after I build a shelter and find food and water. No electricity for CD players, so I'll listen to the music of nature. Then I'll carve a large wood spirit which I'll name Wilson
