Hi all Well, I've been put back on antidepressants by the doctor after 4 years off of them. It's got to the point where I'm under threat of losing my job due to poor performance, which is what made me actually sit down and admit to myself it was back. I guess it's been building for some time but until you admit it's there you just keep on ignoring it. The doc has also put me forward for some councelling. Right now I'm either ignoring it and pretending I'm fine or so low I could put on a tall silk hat and still walk under a duck! Hopefully that will start to improve now I've started the meds. May not be on that regularly but I'll keep in touch |

Grim, that can be a devastating condition, but also one that can be treated. Please make sure you follow the doc's instructions and keep in touch here on the board! I'll keep you in my prayers. Al |

Hey Grim Hang in there. I have a good friend who has depression and PTSD. So, I know what she goes through. Do what the Docs say and lean on your family and friends if you can. My friend always say that she wouldn't know what she'd do if it wasn't for the people around her that care for her. And prayer helps a lot too--so do that and I'm sure we will too. I will anyway. Hope to see you up and about and hanging out with us riffraff soon. Take care, Bob |

You have a spirit in you and strength, you will win. In every situation find one positive thing and the dark will fade. I am thinking you should carve the little man in the tall hat...I wish you so much Blessings and Love!

Keoma is is on target, after healing from combat wounds, I thought I was going crazy so did my wife and everyone around me. Back then no one knew about PTSD 25 years later I was diagnosed with PTSD, VA Shrinks put me on meds, went through therapy. I later went got my Certification on Mental Health, for the last 15 years I had been counseling other combat veterans. This depression thing is hard to understand there is no cure but it is treatable once you accept that you will have to live with it the rest of your life. The cells in our brain the control our "pleasure zone work on the "reward system". When one has been diagnosed with depression seems like nothing can satisfy us,some people take drugs or alchohol (it's also a drug) excessive eating or any other type of thrill to ease the mind, however all of those pleasure trips only last a short while so we repeat the same dumb thing expecting different results. Your medications will probably have to be taken for the rest of your life, however only you will know if they are working, there is no medication for depression that is a magic bullet, it's based on how well your doctor or counselor gets knows you and trial and error. Therefor you become become the judge of how well your meds work,so keep in touch with your medical or mental health provider. Let them know how the meds are making you feel. The positive side of medications they give you an opportunity to "change" your lifestye and that's the hardest part of recovery. You already have half the battle beaten, you are a good carver. and you l would be working on the positive side of your life. Some of us folks have stated that carving is an addiction. For me it is ,as for many years I have been feeding my brain's "pleasure zone" with some type of woodworking project.. However I still can be as honery, self pitting and as angry as I choose to be. But at the end of the day, I have go and apoligize to anyone I may have hurt their feelings with my Bull.... and I hate to go around apoligizing. So go for it and start feeling good,it take awhile but if you keep at it will work. Several prayers a day to God works wonder, good luck and God Bless you. Oscar |

Hang in there my friend. Speaking form personal experience it can be a devastating thing. Listen to the docs, keep the faith, believe in yourself and you will see the difference.
