| | Colin's Pumpkin Inspiration. Ok Colin how did I do on the first one?
After watching Colin do a couple of these at the Open House I just had to try one. Had trouble carving against the grain and almost grabbed the chain saw. Still an amature at punkin carvin and decided to stay with hand tools.
What a blast to carve!
Only problem I see is they fall into the "Hey Can You Carve Me One" catagory.
Thanks Colin,
Goody

| | Re: Colin's Pumpkin Inspiration. Boy the kiddies are going to be scared of that one. I plan on getting a bunch to carve up myself for Halloween. Perhaps a few gords as well. I'll be saving that carving for a reference.

| | Re: Colin's Pumpkin Inspiration. Nice carving Goody! Does the moisture do anything to your hand tools, or do you have to clean them with something after you carve the pumpkins with them so they don't rust??

| | Re: Colin's Pumpkin Inspiration. Nancy - Im trying an outdoor finish called helsman. I let it set out in the sun for a couple of hours and the surface moisture dried and the flesh got a leathery feel to it. I then sprayed it. I wil keep you posted on how it holds up.
Blake - I cleaned the tools immediatly after as was done and wipet them dow with WD-40. The next one I do I will probably keep a wet rag and wipe the tools as I set them down. I was carving outdoors and the pumpkin dried to the tools pretty hard in a short amount of time.

| | Re: Colin's Pumpkin Inspiration. Goody you obviously paid good attention you really did a great job. I agree carving cross grain on those things is hard, chainsaw makes quick work of that Love the pumpkin looks like you will be a hit on halloween.
