| | Carving feeds the soul!! After a week's worth of nothing but domestic duties, today I treated myself to a few hours of carving - and it was everything I'd hoped it be!
Even the kids were busy playing, (and chasing each other around with a broom), so their were no frustrating interruptions, besides the typical making sure they were ok and feeding them! Nic hung out in the kitchen with me and kept himself busy taking cans out of the cabinet (he's only 18 mos!) and Mary left when I started singing (gotta remember that tactic!)
I don't know if its the carving, the creativity, having my mind on something else, or all of it combined, but it definitely is food for the soul! Anyway, I'm riding high, feel totally energized and stress-free and had to share it with those who would understand!!

| | Re: Carving feeds the soul!! Lucky you Jillsy. My little bride decided to remodel the master bedroom. Only been 10 years since we redid it. No "MY" time lately. Meaning, no carving, just little short times to get on the board. Hmmmm, Maybe it is time I get my shop in order so as to have room for HER projects.
That's it, No more time spent doing what she wants!
Well it sounded good!!!! |

| | Re: Carving feeds the soul!! I know what you mean jillsy,
there is just some days that the carver in me turns on, things are quiet and still, i watch my 3 year old grand son so it gets quite hectic when he wants to fan the door going in and out or play hide and grandpa monster come get me.
he likes to sing with me, of corse i dont know how he stands the noise, but he parrots along, as we make up a song about what were doing.
with his glove, sunglasses with no lenses in them and butter knife he carves on a scrap i drawed him something on, i gotta stop what im doing occasionaly and carve on his block to keep him interedted and recharge his desire to play carve, and we make a memory ..
kenny, hope you aint in as deep as i just got finished with, im still finding sheet rock dust when i move something in the room... good luck youll survive the refurbish... |

| | Re: Carving feeds the soul!! jillsy, wow, yes, so great for you !!! and i completely understand...to me too, carving makes me feel good. i think it is that it is demanding in concentration, you need to focus on the given task, but each task is a small step, so you get reward very soon... :-)...and you do what you want, and what you want is good :-) ...and this is not so in not-creative areas, even your kids seem understand intuitively that carving time is good for you, and thus not disturb you... thanks for sharing your joy. its wonderful to experience other people have same good feeling about precious carving time :-) |

| | Re: Carving feeds the soul!! Lucky you! Getting to carve in doors in the kitchen. If I get caught with a knife in my hand in the house I get my carving privileges taken away! Something about not wanting to step on wood chips! Darned if I understand what its all about!!!!

| | Re: Carving feeds the soul!! I know exactly how you're feeling, Jillsy. I finally managed to sneak away from my grandson to work on something, and even though nothing much got done (other than a few nicks and scrapes), it sure felt awful good to be sitting surrounded by mounds of woodchips with sawdust in my hair and shavings to curl my toes in.
Talk about soulfood, eh? |
