Default A Carvers' Trading Post

Keoma recently offered some carving books and I took her up on it. Also, a "chainsaw carver” (sorry I don't remember the name) offered assorted hardwoods to anyone who paid shipping and handling. And, there's also the person who's willing to give away his old Dremels for parts. There are many posts like these coming from very generous carvers. I think it an excellent way for us to recycle things.
I’ve detected a common theme in the threads and would like to throw out a suggestion. It seems to me that many of us carvers have a lot of “stuff” tucked away or just boxed up in storage, things like wood, knives, chisels and gouges, books, patterns, paints, stains and glue, tools, etc.
If the WCI moderators approve, and if it’s legal/ethical, could a trader/swap forum be set-up so we can post things we have that we are willing to exchange for something else someone else may have, or perhaps just want to give away. Items would not be offered for sale but for trade or free. Addresses and postage would be arranged between the traders through PMs.
Discussion and ideas welcome.

Sounds like a plan to me. I like trading wood and tools and stuff.

Well, so far so good. I guess we just have to wait for the WCI Honchos to give a green light or . . .

I don't see why some one couldn't contact whoever has an item for trade themselves. Right? No like it is a business or anything so shouldn't be any problem with the WCI "Honchos".
Just do it

Unfortunately, we've talked about this before, and the editorial team decided against it.

There's just too much potential for it to be abused.

We struggle with people placing unsolicited ads on the message board all the time, and if we allow something like this, well, I just don't have time to police it all.

What happens if someone buys something and passes a bad check, or offers to trade, and never sends the item...the best possible scenerio is that feelings are hurt, and it goes down from there.

If someone mentions that they are looking for something, and you've got an extra one, feel free to PM them and work it out that way, but I'm not comfortable having a section devoted to it.

Best regards,
Bob Duncan

Wink Re: A Carvers' Trading Post

Yes Bob, I agree with you on part as we have seen some trades not transpiring or taking place in the ornament swaps. But then to, it is usually those who usually do not live up to their commitments anway.
To bad some people's word is not honorable.

Thanks anyways Bob and staff for looking into it.

I pretty much agree with you Bob. One way to find out the type of person is the ornament swap. The year I did it, only 2 people didn't participate with me yet received ornaments. That wasn't a big deal to me though only reason I haven't participated in the last one, was that I was already committed to doing a lot of carvings. I already have a couple of commissions for next Christmas Yow!

I think PMing is a good idea though. I know there's quite a few folks on here that I trust.
