| | Bench Dogs When I retired from 'real' work and took up, according to my wife, more or less permanent residence in my workshop my two dogs came with me and spent a lot of time asleep in the shavings under the lathe. This morning Little Vic the chihuahua died after a short illness. He was 16 years old.
Some months ago a member had a similar experience and wrote a very moving passage in homage to their dog. Unfortunately I have been unable to trace it. I wonder if anyone who remembers it could let me know the author because I would like to ask permission to carve at least some of it as a memorial to Vic.
Many Thanks

| | Re: Bench Dogs Pete, I can't help at all with your search for that piece of prose, but please accept mycondolences on the loss of your friend and companion. I know very well the attachment we have to our canine friends. I lost my huskies over 20 years ago and have just recently taken on a new "buddy". Great company.

| | Re: Bench Dogs Sorry about the loss as I'm sure he'll be very much missed. On the other hand it appears that he left behind some great memories with pictures like this. Great picture! |

| | Re: Bench Dogs Ahhh, what a cute picture of your beloved companions. We all have had to say good bye to a cherished pet. Just know, that I know what it is like and wish you peace. It's hard to let go, but you'll see Little Vic again. I remember a poem that was given to me after our little JR Tootsie passed away. It's called the 'Rainbow Bridge'. I'll see if I can find it for you. Go here http://www.indigo.org/rainbowbridge_ver2.html and click on enter.

| | Re: Bench Dogs I'm so sorry to hear of your loss... it hurts loosing our lil furry friends. I have one too that likes to lay on my lap while I'm carving.. she doesnt mind getting buried in the chips. She stands up slowly and lets me wipe her off before she'll jump down.
I'm glad these folks were able to find those posts back for you.

| | Re: Bench Dogs Many thanks to you all for the kind wishes and for the information. I have sent a private message to Eddie s. I have had dogs most of my life, usually big ones, German Shepherds, Ridgebacks and the like. Who would have thought that one of the biggest stood only eight inches high at the shoulder. Before I go can I wish all you woodcarvers Merry Christmas and a ![004[1]1](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1]1.gif) New Year.
