Default What a bargain !!!

Hi everyone, Happy Holidays. Now to the business at hand.

I often marvel at the gullibility of some people (not us though). I don't know about other countries but here we have unbelievable bargains to be had on television. One example that is current is the ability to purchase a genuine copy of a $50 gold coin. It comes with a certificate of authenticity!!! They say it is valued at $50 and only 6 per household, and you have to order within 6 days(this commercial has been running for a year). Here's the scam. It is plated with 14 mg of .9999 gold!!!! Gold has 31.2 grams per Troy ounce. Divide that by 14mg and you have roughly 2220 applications per ounce. Divide the current price of gold per ounce (I'll use $1500) by 2220 and you have about 75 cents worth per coin. You can get 75 cents worth for "only" $9.95. It's hard to believe some people actually think they're making an investment.
We wouldn't do that as a group because we can see through a scam purchase, right? What if you saw this ad: 112 piece "Professional Woodcarving Set", valued at $800.00, but through a special purchase we can offer it to you for the remarkable low price of $19.95. Each piece has real metal blades and realistic "wood like" handles and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Limit one per household. To get this you must phone them, give them your name and address, phone number, and credit card number.
I'm just venting because I'm sick of these commercials that prey on people that don't know any better, and I don't like predators.

Tim

Oh, by the way, if you order the "Professional Woodcarving Set" within the next 10 minutes we will double your order!!!! That's right, 224 pieces for just $19.95, and we will throw in a complete cabinet shop at no cost to you. Order today!!!!

Dang, I should have held out, I ordered the 112 piece set but not when they were offering to double my order and throw in the cabinet shop. I always seem to order things at the wrong time. Wonder if I call them they will upgrade me.

Seriously though, you are right, they do tend to prey on those that are gullible.

I agree. There are some commercials that really make me laugh..but in a good way. I used to love catching the "Happy Cows from California" commercials. And now its the Tiger.com commercials ..the hunters one really makes me laugh because it reminds me of family. ha ha

Now as for selling type commercials.. I'm quite happy with my Ronco Rotissery and the batter shaker bowl. The thing for the bathtub to wash your feets (got as a gift)...well ... found out I'm horribly ticklish on the bottom of my feet and that thing went to the carving rooms bathroom for scrubbing the carvings when I wash them. Just sucked it to the wall next to the sink. ha!

As soon as hubby leaves the TV unattendend.. I turn it to the serius channels for just music.

Marcia.

Dang! you guys down in the states get all the breaks! I'll bet if I ordered that "genuine copy" of the $50.00 coin I'd end up paying extra postage and have to make up the difference in the currency rate between our two countries........
Happy New Year to all my carving friends;
Soggy

Yep, when I saw the commercial, I actually looked up the current price of gold, and at that time it was just over $1600/ounce. Gold value worked out to be about 79.4 cents - and to think that it was originally valued at ONLY 50 dollars.

Hey Marcia, There are some good products out there. One I like is so simple that you can't go wrong. It's the metal basket used for cooking. I like hard boiled eggs and it sounds perfect for this. Wonder why I didn't think of it? I guess the only thing to remember is caveat emptor. Thanks for all the replies. Only 201,000 more and I get the Cadillac!!lol.

Buyer beware! They make it sound like a great deal. You really broke it down Tim. We have so much junk advertising thrown at us all the time. My TV remote can change those in a hurry, and does. Shop with caution.

AND, the worst part is??? people actually buy that stuff. That's why the vendors pay for the TV ad time.....time to ask the question...how did the fool and the money get together in the first place?????
As always....if it sounds too good to be true??
Wonder where the $$$$ actually goes?
