Default Back From The Trail Drive

Thought you might like to see some photos of our trip to the "Echoes of the Trail" event in Fort Scott, Kansas over the past weekend. Had a great time even though it did rain out the Sunday breakfast. Lots more photos on the Blog. Some of you have ask how and where I get my inspiration for some of the pieces I do.....well, this is one of the ways!! I did a Cook a few years ago titled "Cookie's Sunday Treat" in which he was fixing a couple of pies. Check out the photos of those apple and cherry pies and you can see clearly where I got that idea! I love woodcarving and I love the Old West and participating in these events really gives one the chance to talk to people of have knowledge of all aspects of ranch and cowboy life. It's great!!

P.S. I'm sure you're going to find out so it might as well be from me......I burnt the first batch of biscuits. But hey, it was windy and it's hard to control the heat in those conditions.

Photo 1....Judy mixing cinnamon rolls.
Photo 2....Our wagon
Photo 3....An apple and cherry pie.
Photo 4....Yours truly pouring a cup of Cowboy Coffee.

That cherry pie disappeared almost before I got it out of the Dutch Oven and the pan was so clean Judy didn't even have to wash it!! We saved the apple one for ourselves as it has raisins in it and I love apple pie with raisins.

MMMMMM MMMMM MMMMM, can smell what ya got cookin.
Baked a few pies myself in Dutch ovens and made pizzas. Loved cooking in Scouts. Love to cook beans in a big Dutch oven. The Boys didn't like bean but us leaders did. Course the boys didn't like us later either.
How old is the Chuck wagon Lynn?
Man what a shame on the rained out breakfast. Nuttin like fried eggs, sausage and fried spuds over a fire backed up with a biscut or two and a dab of honey on them. Dang Lynn, Made myself hungry.

Glad y'll had a great time. Good people, good food and that makes the rian more bearable.

Thanks for the look-see Lynn. But I got one question; knowin that most of the time there can be only one cook in the "kitchen" - is it Judy or Lynn?

It's a Springfield wagon made in Springfield, Mo. and was sold new in Seneca, Mo. around 1900. Everything is original except the chuck box. You can still read "C.L.Higgenbottom, Seneca, Mo on each side. It was stored in a barn for about 60 years which explains it's good condition. I'm the third owner!!!

Tom.....Judy does the breads & pies...we both do the meat & vegs and I do all the actual cooking cause it gets pretty hot around the fire when you have several ovens going. Being as I get blamed for everything that goes wrong around the homestead anyway I just thought I'd shoulder the blame around the wagon too. Definitely don't want to P.O. the wife out on the trail!!! Those cowboy bedrolls can get pretty cold when you're the only one in there!!!
