| | Back home from the hospital Got home yesterday and hopefully they now have me on the right meds. I feel much better, but due to the long down time I'm still very weak. I'll be starting therapy to build my strength back next week. I've read threads about burn out and I'm sure some of you are, but I really wish I could get back to carving and creating, I miss it most. Wishing you all a very ![004[1]1](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1]1.gif) New Year and keep on carving.

| | Re: Back home from the hospital Hi Dan,
Good to hear you are home at least. Rough time to be in the hospital, but when is it not I guess?
I've managed to break my hand twice, in the last few years, and as frustrating as it is to not be able to carve at all, I kept a small sketch book with me to write and sketch ideas so the creativity didn't have to be gone. Frustration at not being able to produce, it turns out, is a pretty insistent muse.
I like to draw with a fine point sharpie or with a soft lead pencil. They tend to translate my thoughts better.
You might try it. By the time you are recovered, and perhaps, not inspired to carve yet, that sketch book could be a wonderful surprise full of ideas for you.
HOpe you feel yourself again very soon. ![004[1]1](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1]1.gif) New Year

| | Re: Back home from the hospital Thanks Thor, Your idea about sketching is wonderful and as soon as I'm not so shaky, I'll try it. I've tried to pick up a pen but can't draw a straight line. I'm going to get used to the new med and eventually I'll be back at it. May have lost my strength for a while, but my imagination is still there and its fighting to come out.
Thanks again, Dan |

| | Re: Back home from the hospital Welcome home Dan. If I've learned one thing about your situation, it's to do everything that the Docs tell you. And don't expect to have all your strength return over night. That sketch pad is a great idea. Glad you're back and look forward to seeing some carving as you get stronger.

| | Re: Back home from the hospital Thanks Kathy, Tom H & Gene, With all the encouragement from wonderful people like you I feel better already. I don't have any choice other than to follow the Doc's advice, but he promised that before long I'll be better than before. Thanks again and may you and yours have a Very ![004[1]1](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1]1.gif) New Year.
