Default The art of Ian Norbury

I just went over to Ian's website Ian Norbury - Sculptor and was just blown away his skill is just so amazing. I just bought his book carving female faces and seen the link posted in it, I was wondering if anyone else on here checks out his work. I am really at a loss of words how to describe it, and I would love to just meet him, but to take a class with him. Baby If you haven't looked go check it out.

Hey K Karver, that's not a critique just an opinion....and I agree with you. I am in awe of his talent but "not so hot on his subject matter" .

Right again, Joy. Opinion. But still mine and "is it bad to share when we don't really care for it?" Maybe. Hope it is done out of an interest in sharing not in stabbing or cutting down. I have the same thoughts on Van Halen. Great artist, not so hot on the subject matter. John K Karver.

Always good to share opinions with others then you get to see the whole picture from all points of veiw. I like the way he does his art, in my eyes just about every style of woodcarving has become traditionalized, you have to do it this way then that if you want it to be good. But with Ians work he doesn't do it for fame or for money or any of that he does it because he loves to and he likes to push it to the edge, I am the same way and would love to in 20 years acomplish even only half of his skill level. To just pick up a peice of wood with only an idea of what you want and then make turn out beatiful is a great skill and there arn't very many masters of this. If you want to see mostlikely the best carver who has ever lived look up Grinling Gibbons. I am suprised to see carvers who would be put off at the sight of his work, if that upsets you I have done some custom orderd peices that would make your heads spin I will however not post them here I would most likly get intotrouble. There now you have my opinion so take it along with everyone elses and mush them together and see what it makes.
