Baghdad, Iraq.

Give up an hour or two of sleep just to get out. A little piece of hot dog wore this one out.

Naw woodie,

we don't get much further than the catfish shack and catch our fish on the dinner plate now a days, but in days gone by,
me and brother in laws was taking bout the worst trips last night laughing about being bitten by skeeters so many times we were unrecognizable at a license check by highway patrol the next morning, with lips swelled and eyelids swollen so we couldn't even be recognized by drivers license,,,looked like we been beat,
swamps are some kinda a rough place to spend the night, but we usually came home with a sack full of bull frogs.

many days, of our youth spent on the bank hand fishing, on Saturday nights. them ice cold foamy canned drinks howling at the moon...

This is probably a little off subject from catfish but Woodie's fishing on location got me to thinking about a fishing expereince that I had when I was in the Navy. I was detailed to a Yard Freight Utility (ex-LSU) #39 out of Long Beach, Calf. They had welded mine laying tracks on her tank deck and we use to go out and lay drill mine fields for the minesweepers also home ported in Long Beach during the 60's.

Anyway, we also use to work with Navy EOD teams to test mine operation. This one trip we took a team of EOD divers out to San Clemete Island off the California coast. On arrival we placed a mine in the water and then anchored a 1/4 mile or so off of the mine. It was too late to set it off that night so we spent the rest of the afternoon and on into the evening fishing.... great fishing... and the divers went down and gathered up abalone. Needless to say we had a feast that night.

The next morning the EOD team set off the mine and while 1/2 of the team collected peices of the mine to take back and study, the other half collected dead fish. It was 8-hours back to the pier and we cleaned fish all the way leaving a trail of fish guts and diving sea gulls. By the time we tied up we must have had 150 - 200 pounds of cleaned fish in the freezer. After presenting the command with their complimentry share we split the rest up between the EOD Team and the crew. My wife and I ended up with more fish than we could eat and ended up sharing it with our civilian neighbors.

Everytime I hear that old Jerry Clower routine about Claude Ledbetter fishing with dynamite it reminds me of that fishing trip....

Sorry! Didn't mean to digress!

Nice catch Woodie! I guess that the locals don't provide much fishing pressure?

The military has provide some unique chances for me as well, Peacock bass and salt water fishing in Panama, Stripers and monster blue cats in VA from the Potomac, trout in the mountains of both GA and VA, bass and crappie in TX, now here, just a little more interesting than the other places.

Thumbs up Re: Anyone Doing Any Fishing?

Fine looking cat, we used to catch that size on trot lines in the Washita River in Oklahoma. Also when stationed at Tinker AFB we were tasked to dredge a 5 acre pond on base. We used chemical that takes the oxygen from the water we got from the dept. of fisheries. Had a great fish fry. Be careful stay safe.
