Default Amish help

While at work today I was thinking about what happened to those poor Amish kids in Lancaster and what I could do to help. I thought that I could donate a carving that I have done to be auctioned off and then I thought what carving would I be willing to part with that would raise some money. As I was thinking about this I started feeling kind of bad about being willing to part with a carving attitude and thought " hey I can do another carving but those girls can't be replaced".
My proposal is, with Fox Chapels help, I would like to put my Wizard walking stick on ebay for auction. If Fox Chapel could put another category on our message board of items up for bid on ebay for the Amish help fund then we could add a link there to the auction. This would provide message board readers info to what was available as well as the general public. Then when we sell the items we could send the money to Fox Chapel
to put in a fund or distribute accordingly to help the Amish.
What do you guys think?

Don my friend what a great idea. The only problem is I sometimes wonder if we would be bringing too much attention to the Amish and their little community. I cant get those little girls out of my mind it is an unspeakable thing that happened. I think that I was talking to them at the open house. They are such a kind and loving people who wouldnt hurt a fly. Not being of their culture I dont know how they would accept it. I think it is a wonderful idea and maybe someone at Fox Chapel could approach them and see how they feel. You are a generous man my friend.

Don ,

I would be more than willing to donate a carving or to make a carving for the families. I am a bit concerned about doing the ebay auction, only because the Amish might well refuse to accept money. They can be very funny about acceptance of things from outside thier order.

But I will be happy to donate a carving as well.

The best thing anyone can do is fight against the atheistic attitude that wants to take God out of the equation everywhere! Incidents like this were unheard of in the 50's! Shootings in school were unheard of as well.....answering to a higher power keeps people more responsible for their actions, not the "if it feels good do it" crowd...we are seeing the results of that! imho

In an atttempt to help Bob get this up and on Ebay Either Pm or email me or Don By the lake with the following information. If your interested in helping.

We need a high resolution image of the carving (300 DPI, at least 5 inches wide) or they can send the carving to me and I'll photograph it...
What kind of wood it's carved from
How it's painted
How it's carved (power, hand carved, etc.)
If it's based on a pattern, who designed the pattern...

Thanks Garry!

Bob

Maybe I'm missing something here, but has anyone contacted these folks and asked if they are receptive to the idea? I would be willing to help out, but would want to know the details before going ahead. Sometimes the best of intentions are not accepted. I say this because the Amish community has just started a fund to help the family of the shooter. That seems like an extreme reversal of the whole situation, and a most generous and forgiving act.

Garry and Don,
I posted a link to this thread on the scrolling message board as well...and asked them to PM me with the information. As soon as I get the info, I'll pass it on to you!

A few more details...

In order for this to help the most, we have to act fast...so I'd like to have all the information to me within the next two weeks so we can have these things up on e-Bay in three weeks.

Just a warning, though...depending on the workload here in the office, we may need to work with one of the company that sells your thing on e-Bay for you...each page you set up takes at least an hour to do (to do it right)...so depending on the number of pieces we get in...

It would really help me if Don and Garry...or even the person donating the piece, can write a description of the piece being auctioned off...something to help it sell!

Thanks

Bob

Thanks Bob ,

I agree it will be request to have a discription.

Al,
So you know there are three funds which have been established. Yes one is for the family of the shooter. One is directed towards the school and the last is for the children of the school which will go to pay the hospital bills of the children . That is the one I suggest support for.
