Default Alfie Fishgap is sick!

Hey everyone,
One of our members, Alfie Fishgap, just got home from the hospital. He had an infection from a cut that was serious enough that they kept him for a couple days.

Now he's home, but on IV antibiotics, so he can't work on his big carvings
(if you go to his site, www.fishgap.com, you'll see what I mean).

So...just keep him in mind, and maybe drop him a line at
fishgap@fishgap.com to let him know you're thinking of him!

Bob

They're not sure...it was the exact same side and the same illness...

It's the same side he had the hip replaced on, so he said they are doing tests to find out if there is some sort of infection in the joint...

I did a little research and learned that as carvers, we are ALL at risk for this. Alfie called what he has Cellulitiis (SP) and according to WebMD, this is an infection of the deepest of the three layers of the skin. It's relatively rare because most cuts don't go that deep, but a sharp tool WILL go that deep!

So just keep that in mind when you cut yourself...wash it out and put some antibiotic ointment on it!!!

Hope Alfie gets well soon.

I have a friend on the fire department who had a cut on his hand. He went to the gym to work out, and then use the whirlpool to ease some achy muscles. He asked if the water was clean and they told him yes. He got in and used it. A few days later, he came down with a staph infection. When I saw him, he looked like a steamed lobster from the rash. He was on antibiotics for quite a while. So, like BobD says, it can happen to anyone. You get a cut, soak it with some peroxide, and put some antibiotic ointment on it. If it don't heal, or starts showing signs of infection, get to the Doctor.

Come on Alfie, get better so you can get too busy again! I think he just cuts himself to take some time off! Ya right....hospitals are so much fun!!!

We worry about you Alfie, so get yourself better soon my friend. Rest and fresh air.

Alfie,
Just spent a week in the hospital myself hooked up to IV's. No Fun at all. Luckily I had all pretty nurses and had a good time teasing them but its great to be back home again. Try to take it easy and get well. Us guys with the bionic joints have to be careful.
