Default Addition to your Christmas Card List

I found this on another message board...and thought you all would like it as well. When you are making out your list this year...save an extra card and stamp for this:

Send a card to:

A Recovering American soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington,D.C. 20307-5001

If there is a Canadian equivalent (or an equivalent for any of the other countries represented by members here) please feel free to post it here!

Bob

Bob... Outstanding post! I just received a packet of Chrsitmas cards from the US Navy Memorial association. I know exactly where they are going.

Do you know if we can send little ornaments or something small also? Or does it have to be just a card? Thanks.

You have to be careful. With security being tight around military establishments or any government facility for that matter, anything showing up looking odd will send off some alarms. There are organizations all over the country that are pacakaging up Christmas packages for military men. If you really want to send something larger than an envelope you might want to contact one of these organizations.

Does anyone know if there is a Canadian equivalent? I'd like to send a card to one of our boys too.

Walter Reed doesn't deliver letters to A Recovering Soldier...

Sorry to get your hopes up. I should have checked the site before posting!

I wondered about that. Last year I did a search trying to find an address to write to and came up empty. All I got was the same info, donate to a third party. Just doesn't seem the same, does it? I think that the best thing that anyone interested in doing something can do is to contact one of their local veterans organizations and see if they are doing a mailout, even if it is only to a local VA. Everyone needs to remember that it's just not the guys coming back from Iraq and Afganistan now (althought they certainly deserve special attention) but there are thousands of WWII, Korean, Vietnam and Desert Storm vets that will be spending the holidays in a VA facility. They deserve our recognition and support also. it gets mighty lonely laying in a bed at a VA facility after the day shift goes home. A little cheer in the way of a card, letter, game, etc... goes a long way. Contact your VA Recreation Department for a list of organizations that have hoilday activities planned.
