| | Work In Progress Okay folks, let move on to what we really like to talk about here and that's wood burning. Since we don't have a dedicated area for Pyrography Works in Progress I decided to start this thread.
What are you working on? What challenges are you having with your current project? Let's get back to enjoying ourselves.
Right now, I'm working on another Spitfire which I've almost completed. This will be a Christmas present to my friend who is an ex-Navy Pilot. I've decided to do a set of two on Basswood and for those of you who saw my post in Techniques I have to take the wax off the first one because the drawing I was using has a fatal flaw in it and I need to change that one part on it. After I get this set completed I really need to get the rest of the Christmas presents done.
So now it's your turn - what are you working on?

| | Re: Work In Progress I'm working on a new candle Holder. It is a request by my friend's son. He wants a "tree of Life" on the candle holder for a friend of his. Have the holder debarked, sanded and the hole drilled, now just waiting for him to email me the picture so I can get the pattern transferred and start burning.
I am also carving a humingbird for my mom for her birthday, and I have spent hours burinng all of the feathers - but I guess that is more of a carving WIP--even though I have spent more time burning feathers than it took me to carve the bird )

| | Re: Work In Progress Hey Micky, can you post a picture of the Hummingbird? Burning feathers counts as pyrography last time I checked, it's just not flat work.
I'm looking forward to seeing the candlestick as well.

| | Re: Work In Progress Hi Lindy,
Thanks for this thread burning, carving and the artist sharing their work is definitely more important and way more fun for sure. Great idea I'm ready for some fun. So fun here we come!
Well I'm still working on my first relief burning and my biggest piece to date so far. It is a light house scene on a 2ft piece of basswood slab with the bark. I've finished the relief carving part but it was suppose to be shallow relief but it ended up deep relief. LOL It's okay, it,s just a tad more than it should be. I'll start the burning today so I will take a pic before and when I have some of the burning done I will take another pic and try to post them here. Should have had it done by now but wanted to practice up on some burning techniques before I started the burning part.
We'll see how it goes I have never tried to post a pic here but I've seen threads saying how to do it so I will just search for it and read it and I'll go for it. Don't know less you try.
Till then... have fun everyone and I'll be looking to see the results of everyone fun too.
Blessings,
Tina |

| | Re: Work In Progress Well, my time and work is now consumed by Holiday orders for walking sticks, canes, and talking sticks. This year folks are ordering early...for some reason. Personally I'm learning to carve toppers and some relief stuff. I enjoy the combination of carving and pyro...but have a ways to go on the carving |

| | Re: Work In Progress Hi, Lindy...haven't talked to you in awhile....as for me, I'm having a big problem. Just finished a plaque with 2 doggies....one sad and one happy. Caption is: "It's all about attitude". Picture is below, but it's an awful pic. However, my problem is the plaque itself. I put a coat of satin poly on it and there are parts of the plaque that didn't take the poly and now it's ruined. I tried sanding the different places where it's whiteish, as you can see in the pic, and redoing the poly, but was unsuccessful. I have no idea what happened with this, as it burned well and there were no telltale signs of any problem. I guess I have to chalk it up to a failure unless anyone has a suggestion. Bonnie |

| | Re: Work In Progress Bonnie - how about using some kind of stripper to fully remove the poly and then maybe use wax? That piece is way too adorable to give up on so if you absolutely MUST throw it out, throw it this way .
Seriously, I believe it is salvagable. Talk to the people at the hardware store, they'll know what product you need to strip it clean again.
There seems to be a whole bunch of fun stuff being made - could you guys post some work in progress pictures so we can see them as they progress? Not only is that fun but it would sure help some of the newbie who are learning to burn get some ideas on how to do it as well.
I promise on my next project I'll put done the burner long enough to stop and take pictures for a progression post.
Thanks everyone for getting into this thread and I really am looking forward to seeing pictures, pictures and more pictures.
