| | Which burner/tips to consider Cash burning a hole in pocket. Considering purchase of a burner and tips. Will mainly use the unit in conjunction with carving. To make and clean up cuts. Can I even do this?? I carve small. Faces anywhere from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches wide. If this is an appropriate use of the burner, any suggestions on a unit and tpye of tips?? Thanks Tom H |

| | Re: Which burner/tips to consider I use a Razortip dual unit, with a small skew tip and a small spear shader/scaler. Can do most anything I need to with those two tips. Most of my other tips collect dust.
A burning unit is a good investment.

| | Re: Which burner/tips to consider Tom, You will get a Variety of answers from Razortip, Colwood, Burn Master, etc. Different folks with different Opinion. I think they all are good ones. If I had to pick one burner, It would be the Razortip and as for tips, razortips new burnersusually come with the large Skew tip which can burn fine detail but if you want finers than that tip, the smaller one or extra small one. the latter are good for furs and feathers, if you decide to carve burs or beasts, a shader and to me a kinfe tip. But that is just me.
Contact Susan Irish or Nedra Dennison, Both are on this board and I think Nedra sells the Razortip, Both acommplished Pyros. Wow that last sentence didn't sound right.
Would contact either one or both. Colowoods have a nice burner also. Used it in The Bishop Class to burn where the colors changes. But only lightly.
JMHO!
I have a Dial a Temp and does most everthing I wanyt it to do. But then, It does not have the same type of ends. More of the soild brass tips. Not screwed in. Round and held on with a clip ring.
I know, Confused ya eh? |

| | Re: Which burner/tips to consider Thanks Kenny and Bob, I guess I am just gettin old (older). The older I get the harder it is for me to make any decisions. I guess all the better ($70 to $150) burner units are OK. Always over researchin and gatherin too much info. I suppose what I am really deep down after, is for some one else to make the decision for me. Thanks Tom H |

| | Re: Which burner/tips to consider Well, I"m definatley not the carver in this group so I can't specifically help you with the tips they use for various things but the Razertip #7 and 1 are used frequently for outlining the carvings.
I do sell the Razertip.
I also always strongly favor fixed tips vs interchangeable tips.
You will find a lot of information on my website, Especially look at the Pyrography 101 tutorial on the Razertip pens.
If you have any specific questions or need help please don't hesitate to email me nedraspyrography@aol.com

| | Re: Which burner/tips to consider Nedra, Thanks for your input. Knowing the work you do and seeing it first hand, I figure you would be the best source for info.
Tom,
This gal not only sells them but she uses the product. I would venture to say, If the Razortip wasn't any good, Nedra would be using some other Brand. I would also venture to say, she has tried about every brand before settleing on Razortip.
Nedra,
I did notice the Colwood tips or handle seemed to be hotter for not being used very much. Several on the board has them but when I decide to quit using the Dial a Temp and go for a better one, Razortip will be the one with the tips I posted before. JMHO |

| | Re: Which burner/tips to consider Tom,
You said you want someone else to make the decision for you, so here it is: Buy the Razertip! I have one and love it! I didn't know Nedra soldthem and bought it elsewhere...I could have saved about $20 and probably gotten it quicker from Nedra. Her price was definately lower by a good bit.
Enjoy your shopping! You'll love the Razertip!

You might try buying it for HER! No, that might backfire on you, she might return it and buy what SHE wants! Trying to help you out here. Something I've learned, NEVER refer to tools as toys! Tools are essential to the very existance of mankind...like snowmobiles in the North or a good fishing pole... tools, not toys! My wonderful Wife of 30 years has learned that I need tools and accepts it. She knows for a fact I don't need another toy. TOOLS, not toys!
