Very nice work everyone.
Tina you are doing well with your shading and the tiger looks very nice. It might help to get more realistic fur if you find some photos of tigers and convert them to black and white to give you the tonal values. It's much easier to make it more realistic if you study a photo rather than a pattern and look closely at the photos to see how the fur grows around the head and body (if you are doing an animal with the body showing) and how the dark stripes of fur on the tiger blend into the other fur.
We had a wonderful trip to Topkea. I was just amazed at the wildlife we got to see along the way. We saw dozens of red tailed hawk, antelope and deer. What kodak moments.
Hollis, glad you are getting some leaf peeping in. Most of the colors have faded here and along the way to Topeka but we did get to see some colors as well as some very unseasonable warm weather. Not complaining!!!
I finally had a chance to do some more burning on my little girl. I was hoping to get it done for the art show this weekend but I was so busy gearing up for the classes and show in Topeka it just didn't happen.
Here's what' I've done with her so far. Most done with my bent spear shader except for the lower right corner of her blanket where I used my single temp burner for the darkest areas and then I'm back to the spear shader to blend the lighter tones. I'm using it much like a paint brush blending to create a "mottled" look to the blanket. I'm still working on the right side of the blanket and her hair.

| | Re: Whatcha' Burnin' TeeBurn ... Love the stylized feeling of the baby and lamb. Very , Very nice! The tiger would fit nicely into my home, let's see, I think just over the plant shelf where he could live in a nice little jungle.
Lindy ... What great wood grain you captured in the bee burning! The bee wings feel so transparent. Beautifully done.
Hello Nedra.

I just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed every one's work they are all marvelous. Looking forward to seeing even more.
Susan, thanks for starting this thread it's been fun and I've really enjoyed it. And I'm sure the tiger would be right at home in your little jungle. Too many dust bunnies here for him. LOL Thank you for your kind comments.
Thanks everyone else for your comments also. I appreciate them all.
Hope everyone had a very nice Thanksgiving.
Blessings,

| | Re: Whatcha' Burnin' Kathy, class and show have come and gone. Actually we just got back on Tuesday night just ahead of the snow.
I didn't use her in class but I did demo at the show and people were just thrilled to watch and I'm still getting email messages from people who saw me burning her at the show. I had one guy email this morning before we left to set up at the art show. He said he hasn't stopped thinking about her since he was at the show and he thinks he needs to learn how to woodburn. I'm hoping I created some inspiration for others to start burning.
I didn't make a lot of progress there either but it was fun.
One thing I found at the show that surprised me was that they had no differentiation of skill levels in the competition. So all woodburners enter in woodburning and there's no beginners, intermediate, advanced, etc. The beginners were competing against more advanced burners including professionals who actually taught most of them how to woodburn. Now I found that a bit strange not to mention very unfair. I didn't enter anything and that was one of the major reasons. I didn't think it fair to compete against beginners and people I just taught how to woodburn. I guess I don't need blue ribbons bad enough to do that.
I heard a lot of grumbling from club members because it's been that way for years and no matter who complains it never changes and every year the same "professionals" who earn their living teaching were winning all the ribbons and there's no way for a beginner to every win anything competing against them. Not fair but I guess it's not going to change.
