Default WCI Seminar with Irish

I am extending an invitation to all of the members of the WCI Message Board to join me on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 as I begin an online, interactive seminar with a pyrography project, Advertising Barn Landscape.

The seminar will begin at 9AM EST with the posting of the supply list, patterns and drawings, and the creation of a practice board.

This seminar will be an interactive thread where you can post throughout the day with you questions, ideas, comments, and with the sharing of your techniques and experiences in pyro. It will be a chance for all of us - newbies through advanced wood burners - to get together, have some fun, and chat up a storm. This seminar will extend for approx. five days as there is lots to post and as I want you to have lots of chance to join in with your thoughts.

As a special treat I had the chance to speak with Pat of PJL Enterprises over the holidays. Pat is the creator of the Optima I Dual Burner system. Over the years here on the board we have taken the Colwood Burners out for a test drive in the Colwood Acorn thread and the Walnut Hollow Versa-Tool in its review. Everyone on the board has heard about the Optima but we have not had the opportunity to put it through its paces.

Pat has graciously sent me an Optima I Dual burner that I will be using and giving you my review of how this burner preforms as we work through the steps.

So ... I'm saving you a chair at our virtual class table for Jan 11. See you there.

Susan

No videos. Lora will start posting a thread tomorrow morning in the Pyro section. She'll post a few things, and then wait to see if people have questions or comments, and she'll respond. The full size patterns will be available for download.

As soon as she starts the seminar, I'll post a link in this thread.

Best Regards,
Bob Duncan

The members of our sister board at PyrographyOnline.com requested an advance posting for the supply list. So I'll post it here as well.

Supplies:
Optima wood burning unit
PH19M medium ball point tip pen
PH18M spear point shader tip pen
PH12 rounded skew, heavy duty
PH17 coarse hair pen
heavy duty pen cords

Walnut Hollow #18512 Chippendale basswood plaque - 16" x 11 1/2"
#2 - #6 soft artists’ pencil
Transparent tape
White artist's eraser
Ruler
Aluminum oxide compound
Leather strop
9" x 9" 1/8" birch plywood practice board
220 grit sandpaper
Large brown paper bag or heavy craft paper

And our Fearless Leader, BobD, has been working hard to get the patterns nicely packaged so that you can download the full sized images instead of the smaller images I will be posting tomorrow.

Eric, Steve ... I'm looking forward to tomorrow as well. And as this seminar will be posted as a thread it will be permanent here on the message board so even those that can't stop by while it is happening will still have a chance to post in the weeks ahead.

Susan
