I know you think I'm very slow and you're probably right but I'm still muddling away at my burning of the little indian girl. Actually I really haven't done much with her for a while. Between shows and the Christmas season I haven't had much time for fun stuff like burning. Well the Christmas rush is over so I had some time this weekend to work on her and hopefully will get it done in time for the woodcarving show in Yuma.
I'm working from an old Edward Curtis photo which are in public domain so for anyone interested in doing some old native american portraits there is an abundance of material. I've got a library of my own native american stuff but some of his photos are just amazing like this one. Her eyes are just captivating and sucked me in the moment I found the photo on an old postcard I bought 20 years ago and has sat in my photo box since then waiting for the right moment.
Anyway, working on the blanket is really taking a lot of time because I don't want to overdo the darks so I'm burning slowly creating the texture and "mottled" look of the old woolen blanket and working the left side of the blanket in layers before I darken the darks any more. I still have more of the first layer of shading to do on it and then will darken a bit more before finishing up the face and fine tuning here and there.
Hope everyone has a great Hanukah (a bit late), Christmas, New Years, etc.
Stay safe.
