Default Talking Stick

Well Bill went and inspired me! I decided to try a Stick with an eagle burned into the top. It was a fun project and I want to make more of them.

Thanks Bill and thanks everyone else for looking.

Nice work on the stick, Lindy! Karen would say that I need a "Shut Up Stick"....others may agree.

Maybe an explanation of a " Stick" is in order, though???

Al

Beautiful job Lindy and I agree the subject is great. Of course I'm partial to eagles myself.

Thanks everyone! That's the first eagle I've tried and now I want to do one full size.

Al, from my understanding (Bill please correct me if I get this wrong), a talking stick was used by the North American tribes when they got together to tribal meetings to help keep order. Basically whoever held the talking stick could speak without interruption, once he was done saying what he needed or wanted to say the stick would be passed to another in a pre-determined order. The symbols used on the stick represent the spirit(s) they wished to have present and usually the animals were totems to the spirit of the animal. For instance from my studies, and eagle represents clear and distant vision with the gift of being able to dive into the heart of the matter, a bear would mean protection, a deer - gentle family, a dragonfly represents reflecting the light and beauty of those that surround it which is why I have chosen "Dragonfly" for part of the name for Pyrography site. There are some wonderful books out there on Animal Totems, but my favouite is "Animal Speak" which covers animals, birds and even insects. Truly fascinating reading and study.

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.

A good description Lindy. If you visit my SWWC site, there might be some more info on the talking stick(s) [ could be on the kokopelli site?]. There should also be some totem animal descriptions....keeping in mind that the symbology does change with different tribes and areas.

I sell quite a few to school teachers world wide Class control.
