Forrest, Looking good. I'm not kidding when I ask this. What is the difference between a practice piece and a real one. What do you do with the practice pieces when you are done. I think you are doing really good whether they are practice or not. Thnaks for sharing your progress. Mark |

Forrest, I have to echo Mark's question. I too think it is good. Is Lora's book called Great Book of Woodburning? I gotta check it out. Thanks for showing us. Wanda

The practice piece projects from the book are meant to worked as complete projects. But ... the way I worked them in the pages of the book were so the reader could focus on one particular technique. With Forrest's practice sun the idea was to work a pattern using just straight lines so that he can learn how to control the width and darkness of a line burn. This practice session also showed contrast work with very black burned areas right against the unburned white of the wood. He pulled it off beautifully! I think that for beginning burners we teachers can throw too much too fast at them. I believe that they can easily do more complicated work very early. A beginner can easily do the Winter Bird House tutorial that is here on the board. But what I wanted to do in the book is teach each technique, each step individually so that they/you can take that learning into any pattern or design. That way you know what you did and how you did it so that you can do it again at any time. Susan |
