Default scale burning

Hi every one ,im new to the forum and looking for advice , im am ready to burn the scales on my fish carving and am not really sure how to go about it and if there is any method that is preferred , i would like to know more about how we deal with the lateral line and how the scales flow in relation to this, its a brown trout i am attempting to scale, i have made a scale tip and would be very grateful for any advice i can get about fish carving and all its stages , if any one has any references or knowledge they would care to pass on i would be truly grateful.

Peter

Hey Peter.. I would suggest you go to Yahoo Groups and search for Fish Carving. There are two old groups that have very helpful picture and people to ask questions of.

I'm not sure what kind of fish you are carving.. but in most fish, there are different sized scales.. small at the top.. getting larger toward the lateral line.. and getting small again toward the belly. Areas around fins tend to have small scales as to the scales toward the caudal area.

This is a generalization.. but, in my experience, it holds true. There is NOTHING like good references.. a fish would be perfect. However, some companies sell series of photos in about a 4" x 6" color format at a very reasonable price. They have a variety of fish to chose from. Also, they are good references for getting the proper colors down.

There are many good books on carving fish as you get into this area of carving..

Hope this helps.
