| | Redone A4 Skyhawk I forgot to post the A4 Skyhawk that I replaced the original one with. This is a pen box. Please let me know which you like better, the original or this one.
Thanks

| | Re: Redone A4 Skyhawk I don't remember the original and I'm not familiar with the plane but it looks pretty good. I just wonder where the light is coming from if perhaps the shadows on the wings and engines shouldn't be on the bottom rather than on top, as well as the body of the plane.

| | Re: Redone A4 Skyhawk Nedra, those are either weapons pods or auxulliary fuel tanks under the wings. The engine on this critter is in the fuselage with the "pusher" part just below the tailfeathers. This side view doesn't show the sweep of the wings and that may be why you thought those were engines.
But I do agree with the shading recomendation. Light and shadow are a real difficult concept to grasp sometimes and can make a great picture leap into view when done properly. That was I believe not a "put-down" of the burn, but a piece of constructive criticism. I can't make these kind of sugestions from experience because I have a hard time with the shadow/light in sketching, myself, but do know the importance of that factor when composing photographs.
Nice work on the plane!
Al

| | Re: Redone A4 Skyhawk Thanks guys. I'll have to check with Ted to see what those things are underneath. I believe their are extra fuel tanks because he was an instructor for the Navy and was able to bring the plane to Calgary once. His mom took a picture of it on the tarmac, which is where the pattern came from. I did look up more of these Skyhawks on the internet to get a better feel for the plane, but I do admit that my shading could very well be off since I didn't have any good photo's of these trainers flying, just on the tarmacs. If I had painted it, it would have been red and white so the students could see what the instructor was doing, plus these were all 2 seaters, which I understand was not the way the fighters were configured. However, again not an expert on this particular plane. I did however hear from Ted and he tells me its a TA-4J which to you guys who know more about these planes than I might know more about.
Thank you for your comments and critiques. They are really helpful so I can continue to grow in this medium.

Linda | You did a good job in spite of it. One thing to keep in mind that (and forgive me but I don't know much about planes) things that have a round shape such as the "things" I mentioned should have shading on the top and bottom to push it back and the middle lighter to bring it forward. It will create a rounded appearance. And assuming it is on the tarmac the easiest way to figure where your shadows is....the light has got to be coming from above so the shadows and darker shading would be on the bottom and below. The top parts would be lighter.
Hope that helps.
