I only have a Razortip so can't compare.....but I find it great for all the uses I have thrown at it. Mine has controls for two pens, I use an assortment of the basic tip shapes and am learning quickly on it. I'm just a newcomer to burning but I'm happy with it. Great range of results, if you take your time.

Have to agree completly with Bob I have exactly the same machine. I have had mine for probably 10 years and it has been great. Last year I thought it was not working up to par so I sent it back to Razortip They completly rebuilt it for me and all it cost me was $10.00. Also if you break a tip you can send it back to them and they will replace it for $4.00 I think used to be $2.00 but I think it has gone up. The service I have recieved from razortip is second to none they usually have my order in and shipped within 24hours. I have not used anything else so I cant compare it but I am more than satisfied with my Razortip.

I too have a razortip, I bought mine from Dennis at "chipping away". The deciding factor for me, not having an optima or any other brand was the cost of the tips....I found machine prices fairly competitive, but the tip costs on some were terrible! Thats my story and I am sticking to it! LOL

As you may know already, the latest issue of WCI is a burning special, and in it you will find some great information on pens. There are a few basic shapes that you can work from, let me see if I can remember: a skew, a writing nib, a flat shader, a spoon shader. With those tips you can achieve a great array of textures and effects. There are several great articles in the issue, so don't miss it.

Paulie, I may as well jump in here. To start with, I have purchased over $1000. worth of burning pens, I wont name the brands, but none but none will hold a candle to Razertip Burning systems. The last burner that I owned before the Razertip, I would use a pen a month ($25.). When they burn out I would have to buy a new burning pen. When I bought the Razertip system, I use about three tips a year, doing the same work, and, get this Razertip will replace the tips on the pens for $5.00, and they are good as new. The Razertip holds its heat better, have a wide variety of tips, just an unbeatable system , created by a man that uses them. I just can't say enough good about them. My sytem is old, and not as much power as the new ones, but it works great. If I was to buy another, I would buy the Heavy Duty Burner, it has a ten amp burner, compared to the smaller burner which I believe is 3 amps. Go for the 10 amp Razertip,

Dog-gone-it, you Folks have done it again! I've been thinking I needed to buy a woodburning unit for months, putting it off until I just couldn't finish a project without it. I figured I'd make it at least til September or later, maybe even get it on Santa's list and let someone else pay for it! But you got me all excited about such a great tool, the Razertip, I just bought it! My mind went gah gah and I forgot all about Santa's list!
I'm sure I'll thank you all when it arrives and I realize how much I needed it, but PLEASE be careful talking about great tools I don't have! I'm missing the sales resistance gene, great tool division!

Well, I might as well thank you now!
Thanks! Looking forward to getting my Razertip!
Wade
