| | Pyrography pattern making Does anyone know how to use PSP 8 or Photoshop Elements to make a pyrography pattern? I'd like to make a woodburning of a photo but I'm no artist. |

| | Re: Pyrography pattern making I used PS Elements 3 to manipulate the second photo. The first is untouched. The second one has been modified using tools from the editing pallette, remove color, graphic pen filter. It's quite easy to manipulate photos for pyro patterns, just takes tinkering and trying different fliters. Hope this helps.

| | Re: Pyrography pattern making Gilly is correct but you really don't even need to do that. Working from a black and white copy is just about as easy. Just adjust the contrast, brightness and the black and white photo will give you where all the shading needs to be. That's all I do.

Nedra | Good point Pyrographer............I do tend to over-complicate things. Even photo copying a photo, then re copying the copies until you reach a point you are happy with.

| | Re: Pyrography pattern making Photoshop will do it or Corel Photo, gray scale or black and white version of any photo. I imagine there are quite a few programs that will convert photos to B/W, or just a photo copy will work, as mentioned before.

| | Re: Pyrography pattern making Actually Gilley you don't need to re-copy because most copiers allow you to adjust the light, dark, contrast, etc. So, no need to complicate. Also, if you have a photo and scanner you can scan it in the computer and make any adjustments to the photo before printing. Most newer computers already come with photo software such as microsoft photo editor.
There are tons of photo software on the market. You don't need a real sophisticated or expensive version either. A photographer recommended Photo Impact and that is what I use. Seems to work great. It also can turn a photo into an ink drawing and I can then remove the color and it is a line drawing. I'm just now discovering all that it can do.

| | Re: Pyrography pattern making Since I am no artist, I really need to break a photo into its simplest form before I try to burn it. I am new to pyrography, a total novice. I am attaching a photo altered with PSP 8. Would you please take a look at it and tell me if it would work as a pattern for burning? At least I think I attached it. I'm not quite sure how this works. |

| | Re: Pyrography pattern making Thanks MelNM, the photo is of a 100 year old abandonned homestead. With the push for "super farms" there are loads of such sites, many now with just plaques to show the homestead site. Our area here has tons of 100 year old one-room-schools houses and hand hewn log cabins left untouched since the original settlers moved on years ago. I've been hunting these sites out and photographing them for my own "journal" of the history in our area.
