| | picture of archery armguard Ok, here is my first burning. I used the scroll dragon pattern from the Classic Carving Patterns book. Did not make the tail as smooth as I would have liked. Kinda looks like it has a kink in it, but pleased overall. I only have a sharp skew pen right now. I did order a pen for shading and can't wait to try it out. I love the way leather burns. I am not real sure how to add a picture here but will try, it may not work the first time.

I think you did a wonderful job, and all with one tip, thats great. I'm just learning myself about woodburning, but I don't think I could have tackled a dragon just yet, keep it going and keep showingus some pics of your work. thanks for sharing. |

| | Re: picture of archery armguard Hi Susan,
You did a very nice job on your dragon, esp. with just using a skew pen.
Thanks for sharing.

| | Re: picture of archery armguard Beautiful job on the dragon Susan, love the effect it gives to the leather. I'm sure you'll be making all the other archers jealous and getting requests by the armload! Well done.

He's just beautiful and you captured a wonderful feeling of texture to him! I agree with Bob, not only are the other archers going to be jealous but I also think you are going to be very busy as you fill their desires for one of their own. Great job!

| | Re: picture of archery armguard Thanks for all the kind words. I did use some Lexol leather conditioner on it and it did not affect the color of the leather at all and softened it some. This was just a piece of junk leather that is kinda heavy, I would like to try it on a softer nice piece of leather and use some other kind of groment, don't really like the gold color ones. But what the heck it works and looks pretty cool on.

| | Re: picture of archery armguard Very nice job Susan. I haven't done any burning on leather myself but one of these days might give it a try. You've done a great job. It's amazing what you can do with only 1 pen. I primarily use a spear shader for everything. |

| | Re: picture of archery armguard Thanks Nedra, I hope to do better when I get a shader. It is amazing what you can do with very little when you are determined to try something. By the way I love your book I got last week, Lifelike Photography. I also got Lora's Book of Dragon Patterns. Can't wait to try some of the patterns and use your shading tips.
