I am still having trouble with the foam insulation on a burning pen, Razortip, my favotire too, and have tried the teflon tape thing and it's still slipping! It is always the one you use the most, isn't it.....must be Murphy's Law of Pyro.... Head Bange ....all my other pens are fine, and most hardly even get used.....but this one slipped and slided from day one! I use it too often to send it back and I'm too cheap to buy another! It's the small skew. What else can I try? More tape.....damm stuff isn't even sticky!? Bib

You might try a high temp, 2 part adhesive/filler like "JB Weld". We've even used it on the burner tube on an old gas range at the hunting camp, and it's held up for over ten years, now. Only don't figure on EVER getting it apart after that! It adheres to just about anything, including polyethylene, and won't deteriorate the foam insulation. Here's what I do. I get a styrofoan cup, cut a strip as wide as necessary for a comfortable grip, rap it around the pen, cutting it where it meets. Then I just tape it with some masking tape. Might not be a soft and comfy as the foam but it keeps your fingers from getting hot!

I have one tip that is the same way. I started just wearing my carving glove when using that tip. Keeps my fingers from frying. )

Couple thoughts... when electrical connections are corroded they will produce extra heat, if you have to run your burner at a higher temperature setting now than when you first used the tip successfully , it may be corroded and heating up the connection in the tip thus making the hand piece to hot to handle i cut up an old black rubber foam mouse pad for my old soldering pencil and sewed it over the handle... if you leave it fabric side out you got something to sew on and mouse pads are a dollar a dozen now.... heck use 2 layers...

Absolutely contact Cam at Razertip to discuss the problem you are having. He's a great guy and always willing to help. One suggestion for those who's hand gets hot is to keep your work at an angle while you are working so that the heat does not go toward your hand. It will keep you hand cooler and it's more comfortable to work. Nedra

You also have the option of ordering new foam grip from Razortip. I was talking to Cam a few weeks ago about the grips that were slipping. If you call I'm certain they will mail you out a new grip without having to send your pen back to them. If you order a new grip keep your old one. The heavy duty pens are slightly bigger, so if you ever need to replace a foam grip for a HD pen you'll have a spare waiting for you |

I think that might be a good idea Wes. I'll have to find a number and call him. I tried sending Cam an e-mail but never heard back from him. I'm sure it's just some glitch, but I do want to get this thing fixed. Tried the styrofoam cup thing and found it too slippery. More tape I guess! Thanks, Bob
