| | Office Organizers I just finished burning a Business Card Holder and a Paper Clip Holder for my office. I'm now on the hunt for a pencil box that I can add to the set. I thought I would share these with you. As usual the design is not my own, I only burned it. |

| | Re: Office Organizers That would make an absolutely beautiful gift. The soft colors contrast good with the woodgrain and the burning. Really great work! |

| | Re: Office Organizers Nice work. What medium did you use for the coloring. I like how the colors add to but don't take away from your woodburning. |

| | Re: Office Organizers Beautiful work Lindy, great effect. Go for the whole set, and dig out the pencil box. Think about boxes to hold stationary and envelopes too!!!

| | Re: Office Organizers Thanks guys! Eddy - I used acrylics with a dry brush method. I'm sure you already know how to do this, but in case you don't, you put a really small amount of paint on your brush, brush it on paper towel to get most of the paint off and then apply to the painting. This allows there to be a really small amount of colour on the piece. Bob - I've already found a box for stationary and stuff (see the Houston & Savana boxes in the Christmas post) and as soon as I find one for pencils it will be bought. Okay, I'll buy as many as I can find *S*. This set is going onto my desk at work. ! |

| | Re: Office Organizers Lindy... Thanks for the tip. My watercolor instructor has showed me a couple of dry brush techniques but I never thought to try them on wood with acrylics. You learn something new and exciting all the time. I don't know if this will help or not but the other day I received a catalog in the mail from "Turns In Time." They seem to have just about any size box that you could want. If you're interested the URL is www.turnsintime.com Thanks again. |

I'm a bit of a purist and don't use color anymore but I really do like the way you incorporated the color with the burning.
Eddy is correct about Tunes in Time...they have some very good boxes and holders but their plates leave something to be desired. I used to sell their products but we are closing them out. I do not recommend their plates. We had lots of problems getting consistent quality on the plates and almost every shipment many of the plates ended up going back. Often damaged, glue showing, mismatched wood, many of the styles looked more like frisbees than plates, etc. Boxes and holders were pretty good though. The plates are really geared toward the crafter who paints the entire surface and doesn't care.
We still have some of their boxes and holders left and we are selling them at cost. The plates we have left are not theirs...they are a better quality.

| | Re: Office Organizers Hi Nedra,
Thank you, I'm starting to use colour as more of an accent now than a full paint since I figured out the dry brush technique. I prefer to be able to see the wood grain and burn through the paint rather than loose it completely. On a couple of the pieces I put on a wood conditioner to get it to accept colour/stain more easily and what a disaster! When I went to drybrush even the burn accepted the paint evenly - sheesh the product did what it was supposed to and I didn't want it to! So now I don't use the wood conditioner unless I'm doing an overall stain on something that is not burned.
I'm doing a piece right now that is not going to be painted and that's the Spitfire I put into WIP. Once it's complete I'll post the completed burning here.
I took a quick look at your site, (congrats on the retirement and move btw). Do you have other boxes you're selling off? Most of the time I'm buying the boxes at Michael's here in Calgary but I really need a pencil box and I'm not having much luck finding any so far that are untreated/stained.
Thanks again for your input Nedra, as allows it is appreciated. Eddy - Thanks for the link! Bart - thanks for your kind words! |

| | Re: Office Organizers Hi Lindy, I don't have much left. I have really been cleaned out. I really don't like the Michaels stuff because it's more craft quality and the wood is not the greatest but the Tunes in Times does have good boxes and their prices are reasonable. I'm not sure if they ship to Canada but I suspect they do. They are the manufacturer so they probably ship everywhere. Their boxes are all basswood, untreated and perfect for painting or burning.
What I have left in boxes, holders, trays and plates is bare bones and I'm hoping that the next 3 shows (our last for a whilte) will clean those out so we don't have to move them we have them marked down to our cost so I know people at the shows love bargains.
We are so very looking forward to this retirement...long overdue (like 2 years) waiting for things to be "fixed" so I can get my full retirement. Anyway, it's finally happening even though it is 2 years late.
We're excited but LOTS to do especially since we will be homeless (well except for our motorhome) for about 4 months.
