I just made one out a peace of wire . What I did was took a pace of wire the size that will fit in your hand peace . Bend it in a U then hit it litey with a hammer to bing the end of the rounded part to sharper edges then bend the end over an made the size you need . That worked for me ,anything is better than all that money for a pen you just use every how an then .
Try it if you like , you can made all sizes for just a little time not much money !

| | Re: New Razortip Bph Interc. Tip Pen I took a straight chizel pen, torched the end and when hot, bent it to form a scale, and it works like a charm.

... | Ummmm, Bob - would that be "char" as in burning the wood, or just merely "char"m as in working well?

For those interested this link will take you to a nichrome supplier. The fishcarver.com has a great tutorial to make your own BPT pen. He used to have instructions to make your own burning unit but has since taken it down. I built a pen and station myself and it worked great for about 5 years, it recently went out and forced me place an order for a new burning station.
I have included a link below to show how to build your own pen. http://www.fishcarver.com/images/bur...structions.PDF |

| | Re: New Razortip Bph Interc. Tip Pen I Have tried/used the pens. They work. Perhaps run a little hotter than fixed pens. I have snapped off several tips, seem to be more fragile but Nedra accuses me of sitting on them . I like the pens but I ordered several fixed tip pens from Nedra and like them alot better.
For making custome tips the bph pens would be the way to go.

| | Re: New Razortip Bph Interc. Tip Pen It is a definately improvement over the previous version.
Just keep in mind that interchangeable tips are still intended for intermittent burning, not for normal flat burning. So, for the carver using the pens for their carvings it probably is just fine, but for the pyrographer the fixed tip pens are still better for overall performance and warranty. Interchangeable have a 90 day warranty and fixed tip have 1 year, plus for a VERY small charge you can have the tips on the pens repaired or replaced after the warranty.
And as long as you don't sit or stomp on them and clean them properly they should last a lifetime
