| | New Burning - Wolf Hi everyone,
I really like Sue Walters Wolf on the cover of her book so here's a piece I did using her drawings of that wolf. It was a little intimidating because of how the original looks but I finally finished it. This shot isn't showing the highlights in the eyes very well so I'll take another picture of just that area and post it later.
Thanks for looking!

| | Re: New Burning - Wolf Lindy, I really admire Sue Walters' work; but, got to admit that I still like a little color in there. This influences me to prefer your wolf over the original. It is a beautiful piece and I look forward to your photo of the eyes.
I am currently doing another practice piece. This one is the peregrine falcon of Sue Walters'. I found it on her website and ordered the kit. I thought it might be a good idea to try a bird before tackling the eagle in the relief carving.

| | Re: New Burning - Wolf Thanks! Here finally is the close-up of the eyes. Paul - I haven't used colour in this piece at all - I left it natural and then just waxed the piece. What a wonderful compliment though that you thought there was colour in there. Thank you so very much!

| | Re: New Burning - Wolf Lindy this looks just lovely and very true to nature. The eyes are really true , have you looked into a Wolfs eyes,? scary Thanks for sharing your work.
Do you carve it before? or do you burn it right a way ?, since my carving days are slowing down a lot I have to find something were I can sit down more , is it just burning to get a picture??

| | Re: New Burning - Wolf Hi Alice,
I started out as a carver then discovered pyrography. Now when I carve it's to wood burn.
This one is a straight burning done as flatwork on a basswood plaque. I have found that it's a lot of fun turning a one dimensional drawing into something looks like it has depth. I'm not quite good enough to call it 3-D.
There are two books I would really recommend - Sue Walters and Lora Irish. Both of them have the most wonderful tutorials and patterns in them!
Regards,
Lindy

| | Re: New Burning - Wolf Lindy, I took another look at the photo. The fact that the color I see was achieved through burning rather than pigment makes your effort even more impressive to me. Congratulations! I also like your work with the derringer on another thread. |

| | Re: New Burning - Wolf Paul, thank you. I do use colour in some of my pieces depending on what the subject matter is as well as how much is happening in the piece, such as the Derringer and thank you for your kind comments on that piece as well.
