| | New burning I am finishing up a commission and thought I'd share it with you. I haven't had much time to burn lately so I haven't been able to post much. I still have some touching up to do but it's 90% done.
I've not posted with a photo so I hope this works! |

| | Re: New burning Oh Colin, thank you. One of the tricks of getting the depth is burning in layers. I start with the underneath/bottom layer and then burn the next layer on top. Sort of like you get dressed...start with the underwear and then the outerwear. I also undercut behind the layers. Using the side of my spear shader (the one I'm using for the entire burning I did and everything else) I almost carve behind the layer on top. It pushes the bottom layer down and brings the top layer up. It's not outlining, but almost looks that way. With those two techniques I can make the burings look almost carved.
If you get a chance look at my website at the florals. Check out the roses close up and you can see the layers.
Oh, and Colin, please don't be intimidated. We all started somewhere. I surely would be embarassed to post some of my earlier works but I actually kept one that I use as a demo in my classes and when I do demos. Prime examples of what not to do!

| | Re: New burning Nedra,
Absolutely stunning and beautiful use of contrasts. I love the heart shape that you have captured with their crossed arms pointing up to the curve of the two heads. That is an excellent touch in the composition. His dark hair in the background, behind her shoulder, gives such a strong sense of depth. Very beautiful.

| | Re: New burning wow Susan, coming from you I'm thrilled. I wasn't sure about entering it in the show next week but now I think I will. It surely was a challenge to do and I thank you for the kind words. Nedra |

| | Re: New burning Very beautiful work but I'm like Colin and still haven't dove into woodburning like I want to but posts like this do keep the fire in me alive. Thanks for sharing the picture and especially about how you achieve depth in woodburning. |
