Default Need opinions

Hi all
Mrs.Claus says I got one shot at buying a high end pyro unit. Any help as to which unit ( razortip, colewwod, nibs, etc)would be helpfull. Also, after the Mrs.in red comes, what about pens? fixed tip or interchangable?
thanks to all
and keep barkin.

Wish I could help you out with what type of Pyro station to buy, but I built my own and it seems to work as well as any of the commercial models. Now as far as pens go, I can and do use both Colwood and Razetips and both seem to be equally good pens. My colwood pens have interchangeable tips and have never given me any trouble, but then again I don't do a whole lot of woodburning. Our club members have both units and no one seems unhappy with their sets. I'd guess that either one would serve you well.

i bought optima1 with heavy duty cords and fixed tip, p5 spear point , im finding out i should have got a shader as well

find the best bargin with the best garentee then get the fixed tip if your going to use it a lot,
it makes more logic that less electrical connections have less chance of failing, but the trade off is more expence for the tips & with all in one unit...

bu a fair trade off in flexability with the removable tips

I use mine to enhance carvings, don't do much in woodburning per se....but when I decided to buy, after looking around , found the main difference, altho there is some in prices, but the costs of tips....I bought the razortip from Dennis Moor at Carving Away because the price was good and the replacement or new tips weren't outrageous....just my opinion...might add the unit has been good, sent a pen back to have the tip soldered and get another pen and service is excellent..

Hi, I'm a bit prejudiced but I would recommend the Razertip (I've been using them and selling them for 5 years ). It's a great burner, best warranty and BEST customer service. They offer a 3 year unconditional warranty on burner and an unheard of 1 year warranty on all fixed-tip pens. AND if you break any tips after the warranty they will fix or replace it for $7.00...you can't beat that!!!!

Definately go with the fixed tip pens. You can find all the details on the pens, uses and the whys and wherefors of fixed tip vs interchangeable on my pyrography 101 tutorial for Razertip pens on my website.

If you want more specific information on which pens would be best, info on other burners etc please feel free to contact me.

Merry Christmas!

Nedra

I use Razertip and am very happy with it. I use exchangable tips but I would agree that doing it over again, I would buy fixed tips.

bulldog,

if i was starting out again, i would opt for the heavy duty chord and at least one solid connection pen with the alternate nib that has screws so you can make or shape raw necrome wire to make your own tip

i have a heavy duty setup, w/a med spere point and im finding it wont work for all appications but its a great utility tip and highliter - detailer for carvings

handle mentioned above 3/4ths down the page
