Default My first real wood burner

I already had a cheap craft wood burner that I never used by lack of interest...

but after trying a Razortip wood burner a friend has, I had to have one. I mean a real wood burner, not exactly that brand.

So I ordered a Colwood from Chipping Away and was very happy when I received it... and very satisfied when I tried it. I love that red color when it's on max. But 7 seems ok for a normal use.

Here is the model I got:

I found it funny when I saw that they had a Canadian version of the Detailer which is Colwood best seller.

Btw, my needs are simple... just add some lines like Lynn Doughty does and sign my name on my caricatures. But it's so fun that I could begin to do some real wood burning someday

Btw, I chose a Colwood because of the price and the pens that I like.

Gilles,

Congrats. You will enjoy it. I have one, not the same model as yours, but like you, my needs are simple, but if I wanted to do some serious burning I could.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark

Giles, Stay away from that cherry red glow that you like, or I'm afraid your pens won't be lasting very long. When the wood turns to instant smoke when you touch the tip to it, you know you are too hot.

Have fun, Tom

Don't worry, I don't like that either, not for wood burning at least.

It's just that when I turned it on, I forgot to check, and it was set at max power, and it started to glow instantly... what a change with the craft burner. I turned it down right away, but it was nice to see that it could get that hot so fast... I mean, it felt powerful enough for all my needs.

But thanks for mentioning. The owner of the Razortip mentioned that he was using it quite high most of the time. But he is a speedy tupe of guy, and everything has to work fast. I'm more like a smooth type of guy, and I prefer slowly but surely. Control is what I need to learn.

I'll have to practice a bit before I can pretend to be a wood burner expert...

I also have to find what other pens I should buy for what I will use it for. Adding shadows on a wood carving, and use it when I would like the paint to stop bleeding into the wood for a better separation of the colors.

In other words, make my carvings look better...

Gilles

Very nice! On my list of "wants." For now I just sign my carvings with a Sharpie. A brown one.

Eddy, It's sort of like carving around the campfire. You smell it for days.

Gilles, I would also say to stay with the pens with the soldered tips. They make a better connection, and don't get so hot in your hands.

Smokin, Tom
