| | Re: Mule Deer WIP WOW....that is super Susan! You make it look so easy. Thank you for the lessons, many of us appreciate your fine efforts at teaching us. All we lack are skills! But we do not despair....as with effort, practice and a couple of "thousand years", we too shall achieve your level of craftsmanship!!!

| | Re: Mule Deer WIP I feel like I've been through the experience now though I haven't touched my woodburner; I guess that's what teaching is all about! I can hardly wait to get the time to pick up my Razertip!

| | Re: Mule Deer WIP Thank you Guys!
Ron, I figure I have about eight to ten hours but that includes the prep time, scanning, and then posting here on WCI ... So many it's more like six to eight. And, yes, it was all fun and play.
Wade, it's a lot more like "Show and Tell" from when we were in Kindergarden
When I'm on my Teaching Soap Box" I write volumes. One of the studio jokes is that for Susan e-mail doesn't stand for electronic mail it stands for Epic mail. Staying within the limits here on the forum has been difficult at times.
Bob, you are more than complimentary to me, Good Sir. Thank you!

| | Re: Mule Deer WIP Susan, wow beautiful work and I do think you made your value scale. When I have some extra time I'm going to make a scale like you show. I know it would be a big, big help for me. Did you accomplish it by cross-hatching?
Again beautiful work very bold and sensative work.

Susan | Hi Susan:
When you have some spare time could you discribe how you create your sepia scale? I can't tell if it's cross-hatched? or Shaded. OR Thank you in advance,

Susan | Oh Susan please don't apologize I appreicate you showing how you make the sepia value scale so much. One more question may I make a 'study' copy of your two images so I can make one for myself?

| | Re: Mule Deer WIP If anyone would like to print off copies of the images here to use to play with a burning of their own, they have my permission. I do ask that my images and shared instructions not appear on any other website.
If you make a version of wood burning of the Mule Deer and want to post your burning on your site ... that's absolutely great with me! You might be nice and add a link back to WCI forum so that others that see your work will come and join us in the fun.
So, go for it, Kathy

| | Re: Mule Deer WIP Hi Susan:
Here is my 'sepia value guide' I followed your 'guide' images as best my ability took me. The sepia changes from one value to the other are very slight. I just love the color of the sepia burn on the birch.
I didn't work on my lantern today but consentrated on making this wonderful tool. Just wanted to show it to you. Thanks Again Susan,
Kathy ![004[1]](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1].gif) PS: Regarding value one I forgot I had my Razortip pen on 6 my first stroke came out to dark. Set the pen at 5 and all went well.

| | Re: Mule Deer WIP Kathy! Absolutely beautiful! That little exercise is so wonderous for showing the control you can achieve with just a very simple line pattern. Your values progress perfectly!
Now since you already have the rectangles penciled in below try doing a fine random doodle line and adding layers over layers. You get the same value changes but don't have the line effect. That one is great for trees, curly fur, and shading where you don't want them to see how you did it.
