| | Mother's Day Rose burning Here is a photo of one of the roses I burned last year. It is an actual rose from my garden. Flowers, eagles and people are my favorite subjects for burning. It's done on a basswood plate. The background is burned black. Hope you like it!

| | Re: Mother's Day Rose burning Thanks Bob, it was one of my favorites. A friend of mine from Wales took an Eagle I burned and fiddled with it in his photo software to show me how great it would look with a black background. It looked fabulous so I decided to experiement. I've since done a few pieces with black backgrounds and it really does give it a very dramatic appearance. I usually use my cheap Walnut Hollow when I do the backgrounds because it goes faster but I use my Razertip for the rest of the piece. Other than the background I did the entire rose with only one pen, which is what I do on most of my burnings. |

| | Re: Mother's Day Rose burning Hi Ken, thank you again for the wonderful compliment. I hope that we can perhaps get back to the Oklahoma shows again. Perhaps next year. We're now in Washington State and I'm hoping that retirement comes through this year and then we can hit the road in our motorhome and do some shows. I've made some promises to do some classes back east so I must fulfill that obligation. Will try to encorporate the shows and the classes around the same time.
Can you give me the dates of the Oklahoma City and Tulsa shows. |

| | Re: Mother's Day Rose burning Hi Pyrographer,
I just recently purchased your book "Pyrography 101" from Fox Chapel Publishing.
I had just started to read it several days before your first posted here. How cool is that!
Your rose is certainly beautiful and really shows the positive effects of layering that you describe in your book.

| | Re: Mother's Day Rose burning Brian, I'd love to see your your rose when you finish! Just remember, take your time and don't rush the burning. Using a lower temperature and increasing your shading until you achieve the right color is better than burning hot and fast. You will gain much more control over your burning using this technique. I have so many people in my classes trying to rush their work and they soon learn that by taking their time their work comes out so much better. Pyrography has taught me patience! ![006[1]](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/006[1].gif) | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
