| | Keeping my burning skills sharp too. As a continuation of my post in the General Carving thread today, regarding keeping your skills sharp with practice, I have also been keeping my burning skills in practice. I find burning a very relaxing and stimulating exercise, if one can be relaxed and stimulated at the same time. I find burning a great outlet for those creative juices that just can't be bottled up. The more I burn , the more images run through my mind that I want to burn. Too bad my skills can't keep pace with my ambition!!! Hopefully practice will make perfect ...... or at least, an improvement!!!
You might notice the subject matter. I was sitting enjoying my morning cup of tea the other day, and going over the pictures of the Harper model that I just finished. It struck me what a wonderful "model" she makes for sailing ship images, that I enjoy so much. One of those "Aaaaah!!!" moments! And so ...... ! Voila!!!
Sorry folks, some times it takes a while for my light to come on! LOL

I know exactly what you are talking about except that burning is my passion and first love and carving secondary. It is great therapy and stress relief for me also.
And once you get the burning bug you never do look at things the same again as you said. I,m always telling my hubby and friends wouldn,t that make a great burn.
I,m also always telling everyone that the only thing longer than the honey do list is my burning agenda, me to burn list.
I know if I go more than a few days without burning it feels like starting over. Thank goodness it only takes a few minutes to knock the rust off but that first few minutes feels that way.
One of the elements I,m practicing is water. So I definitely appreciate these pieces you have just posted. You sure have the hang of it. But I won,t give up I,m keep trying and eventually I,ll get the hang of it too.
Keep up the good work I enjoy all your work.
Blessings,
Tina

Your burnings are as good as your carvings, and we all know how good those are.
Pehraps when I get caught up w/ my unfinished projects, I'll be able to concentrate on the burning. I'm real new to it. |

Bob | Bob, they are great and I am getting sea sick just looking at those waves. When I used to oil paint I loved doing sea scapes but somehow I never had the interest in doing them as woodburnings. Not sure why but my interests have taken quite a turn when I began working with wood. Funny thing is I started chip carving and gave it up when I got so involved with woodburning nothing else seemed to matter. Well, now things have changed a bit and I'm getting more into gourds and other things as well. I guess I'm diversifying...
Like you the only problem I have is all the ideas floating around in my head and not being able to keep up with them. I have piles of wood and gourds sitting there calling out to me and some already started. I've even got gourds growing in the yard now and one of these days will be ready for me to find something to do with them. So much to do and so little time.
Keep up the great work, keep the inspiration flowing.
