Smile Good Morning

I am new to this type of forum and have just started learning about woodburning--we are making our home into a log type home on the inside as the real log homes are just too expensive--everything inside is in log siding and knotty pine with a coat of poly on top--I have a new kitchen and want to put wild animal woodburnings on the doors--I have done some and need more pictures--looking for bears-wolves-eagles--for my pantry I am doing a tree with racoons & birds on it as it will be 7 feet tall--can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find free patterns--you use to be able to get colouring books on those (bears-wolves and eagles) but now-a-days you can only find Disney type pictures--any help would be gratefully accepted

The simplest solution is to purchase your patterns through someone like Susan Irish. These are designed with woodcarvers/burners in mind.

If you are going to the effort to create works that will be with you for a very long time....the cost of the pattern is minor. I will be doing some carving/burning on beams in our "new/old" farmhouse. At first, I was a bit intimidated by the cost of the wood. My wife pointed out that we hope to be living here for at least 10-20 more years. Divide even the 10 into the $400 I spent on basswood and it comes out fairly cheap. Patterns are a lot cheaper than that.

I agree that coloring books are good sources for patterns. When I travel to parks and such I look for them there. They are still available; but, you have to search for them.

Hi Sharlynn, Paul is right, of course one has to adhere to what their budget will allow especially these days.
Like Paul, I recommend Woodcarving Patterns, Classic Carving Patterns Online, Wood Carving Designs & Patterns Online Susan and hubby have a wonderful site and I think you'll be impressed with both the quality and quanity of what you get for the price. Another avenue would be Dover Books who have some wonderful coloring books on all subjects. I have probably 8 or more of these coloring books and they are great. Just do a search engine with the words Dover books.
Hope this helps,
Kathy

Since you say that you want the pictures and photographs for stricly personal use and do not plan to distribute or sell them I'd recommend ......

Google Image Search

You can take any image and make a pattern from it using a simple program such as IrFanView!
