Mike ... that one is a well deserved AH!

I love burning paper especially as I do some scrapbooking. There are many nice heavy weight papers with a variety of tooth and texture designs on the market. Plus the price is so very right. Its a lot of fun to blow up the photo that will be the focus of the scrapbook page, trace a portion of that photo to the background paper and then burn it.

Chipboard is also a favorite and you can get chip board in the craft brown and in white. The white chip has a heavy white paper glued to the chipboard. So you have the paper surface to burn and you have the chipboard back to keep the paper stabilized.

Paper with a rag content is paper that contains some cotton fibers ... also called 'floor sweepings' as the early printers did print cotton cloth as well as printed paper pages. So the dust and fibers that accumulated on the print shop floor got added to the recycled paper when the printer made new sheets.

Today you find papers with a rag content as watercolor paper, cold press or hot press water color paper and as decorator papers. Decorator papers can have small bits of flower petals, glitter yarns, and even other color paper chips added during the screening process.

So try looking at our local art store for a block of watercolor paper, at least 140 lbs. Heavier weight watercolor papers often have a higher percentage of cotton fibers - so a 320 weight paper has more cotton than a 140 weight.

What you want to avoid is heavily printed color papers as decorative scrapbook papers that have a glossy color on the surface. And you want to avoid light weight papers. They burn just as well as heavy weight but the burning process can wrap the grain of the paper making it buckle.

Here in the US I shop DickBlick.com as well as several other online art stores. Stratmore, a major paper manufacturer, has a wonderful line of watercolor paper cards with matching envelopes which are wonderful for burning.
