| | Finished K9 Salute Was trying to figure out what to put to the left of the flag, figured the soldier memorial would be a nice addition. Finished this up last night, the handler loved it. |

| | Re: Finished K9 Salute Hi, this is a very moving work and from one who knows all about what this woodburning means. Nice Work!
While I was looking at this I was thinking and wondering what the addition of a woodburned rim would look like. Would it enhance it or take away from it. Somewhere and I'll try and find the link I woodburned a portrait of my son-in-laws English Spaniel 'Mandy'. I woodburned the outer edge. As it relates to your woodburning maybe there are symbols you could burn into the edge. Realizing here isn't room for edging on this one, but maybe the next one. Just a thought on my part only.
Found it http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.co...dyandframe.jpg I did add a frame on this one. Another one unframed http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.co...espixelwip.jpg One day I'd like to woodburn a round one.

| | Re: Finished K9 Salute Woodie this is very nice. As far as adding some finishing touches, you could also do a banner with folds 3/4 around the carving from the top.
Hope this makes sense
Mel

| | Re: Finished K9 Salute Nice job Woodie... I'd be lying if I said that it didn't bring up some deep emotions. Seems like the older I get the more it hurts when I see soldier memorials like the one you've woodburned.....

| | Re: Finished K9 Salute Appreciate all the input. One of my problems when burn is over doing it. Al Chapman once tolde me "Sometimes it is not what you burn, but what you don't" in regards to pyrography. Hind sight is always 20/20, could have worked the border before the burn.
I was in conflict trying to decide what to put in there. A palm tree? A mosque in the back ground. Then the unthinkable happened to a good friend, though it was fitting since he was so involved with the dogs. The handler agreed. |

| | Re: Finished K9 Salute It's perfect and I'm real sorry to hear about your friend. This afternoon I was over visiting a veteran friend, ex-emergency air force medic, Vietnam 68. I've got my mobility problems but he's really had it tough coming back from a bout with cancer. We were talking about that very thing.... the lost of comrades under fire. It's something that stays with you the rest of your life. Stay safe and keep your head down Woodie!

| | Re: Finished K9 Salute Nice job Woodie. I think the blank space really accents the work, with the eye seeing the 3 main points. Sometimes simplicity in the layout is the most dramatic, ie: the wall and other memorials.
I guess a border would help keep the eye from drifting away from the main theme, but the images tend to do that by themselves. You could always attach a border to see what effect it might have, rope or something removeable.
I like the work a lot and it does have a lot of meaning...lots of memories also. |
