I just purchased the Pyrography Workshop DVD set and wanted to pass on some imformation about it. Sue has done a excellent job with this one. Now you can see first hand how she and others build up the shading process using a redtailed hawk head for demo. The DVD shows amazing detail on the step by step process of building up color shading. Big screen TV allows a close up detailed approach. Great thing is you can pause it and catch up with her. This along with her workbook on the wolf are great additions to your library. She also has a web site that covers several applications on burning on various materials. Try it Sue Walters Pyrography Keep on burning.

I finished up the hawk (photo attached), am somewhat pleased. As always we can see areas of improvement. I worked this one up with a buddy, Bob's looks good too. I like the shadeing build up that Sue teaches. At first I was not sure, that I wanted to go that way. We thought we could finish it up in a few hours but it took us over 10 and gave us a new respect for temp and patience. Also posted is a low relief of a sea turtle that I completed a few years ago on Butternut. I think I will do another hawk in the same profile as the turtle and burn it the same as the photo posted. Be interesting to see how it cooporates and how the shadeing looks in relief. Charlie

Hi Canetti, I highly recomend all of Sue's offerings, books and dvd's. I have done several of hers including a large wolf one. The DVD is good in illustrating layering shades and the redtailed Hawk has some real good pointers. I did it using my PC and the pause button. Charlie

In the event you did not know that Sue puts out an informative Pyro newsletter ever so often, here is the web page. Sue Walters Pyrography Scroll down through the ads and you can see how she burns on bone. She shows you how to prepare the bone and bleach it. Then on to pattern selection and actual burning. The You Tube is good too. She has 18 back issues with more information. Charlie

| Ever want to burn on bone? Sue Walters has a YouTube video on her site http://www.suewalters.com/Newsletter19.html to burn a buffalo on a piece of bone. It should help you through some of the difficult parts. She covers prepairing the raw bone to getting a pattern and a step by step instruction on burning it. Also is the picture instruction just below the vedio. Be sure to scroll down to it, there are some sales info above the post, just keep going on down. Some butcher shops have large bones that make it easier to get a good flat piece to cut out. Also there is the doggie bone at the pet shop already cleaned up and ready to cut out, sand and polish. If you like the post you may want to send her an email and thank her for her time and talent. Patty Rucker is teaching a class at War Eagle Seminar this September 2012 and you can do woodburning and scrimshaw. She has such excellent hands on teaching skills with detailing ivory, bone and wood, that you will go away amazed and proud of your latest accomplishment. She can also help you get the light tint of color seen on old ivory broaches. Simply amazing results. Charlie
