Don't know if you have a bandsaw, but if so, do a search on bandsaw boxes and then try and make one. They are extremely easy, if you have a bandsaw, and you can make the top/sides as thick as you want for chip carving. All you need is a chunk of wood close to the size of the finished box - you can order those online a reasonable prices.

Does anyone know a good book on making the boxes. Hubby has a bandsaw and I really would like to work on boxes again but I do agree that buying them retail plus shipping is pricey and most of the time the quality is lacking.
