Talking Burning Pens

Hey guys, was wondering if anyone knows where I can find some fairly decent scale burning pens?? Seems they are hard to find. Thanks

Check www.woodcarverssupply.com they cary a full line of scaling pens and tips from 1/16" to 3/8".

Scaling tips on page 4 of the "woodburning" section

So far I've made my own scaling tips for my "hobby burner" but have tried and liked these scale tips.

I like the variety and sizes of scale burners available on the Colwood Wood Burners. I've done fish from the smallest scaled trout up to a big crappie. All of the fish scale tips I've used have been the replaceable tips and they've worked very well.

You usually need a center line tip, plus 2 or three different sizes--depending on the kind and size of fish.

If you don't have a carving supply store nearby, go direct to their website: http://www.woodburning.com/toolshop/...e=26&offset=20

OK, now you have a decision to make.....oh, boy, not more decisions.

Both these tip styles will give you good results, but they are of two completly different designs.

The ones Donna mentions are very similar to the ones I make and work by pushing (touching) the tip straight into the wood to make your scale pattern. This outlines each scale in a fair representation of the scales.

Wood Carvers Supply tips burn from the side and relieve each scale as it burns giving a more realistic look to the scales. In competion, you'd be better served by the "side burn" style tips, but the straight-on ones are a lot easier to use and give a pretty darn good representation. I don't carve competitively so I use the straight on type, but eventually I wll probably go to the more realistic burn of the side style.

Have you checked out the Razertip pens? There are a large variety of scale pens and sizes. I have some but not all of the sizes.
