Default burn a walking stick?

Hi there!
I have a walking stick with a carved duck head as the handle. I am wanting to do something to decorate the shaft and I am toying with the idea of burning feathers the length of the stick. My question is...since the stick is not really straight and smooth ( and I like the irregularity of it ), would you think the results would be disappointing? It is sanded, but with "lumps and bumps".
On my ducks that I have carved and burned, I always try for a nice smooth surface burn on and am wondering if I would be sorry that I spent a whole lot of time on something like this.
Anybody ever done it? What were your results?
THANKS! in advance.

Jim

I made a walking stick with a cross on top and spiraled down the shaft, woodburned the many names of the Lord........

That is a very impressive stick. Thanks for the reply. I will probably give it a try!
