| | Re: Bodie Ghost Town Door Hi Bob: Thank you here is the link to the parks website for Bodie. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=509
There are other sites also with some really nice images. Do a google search by putting in the words 'Bodie Ghost Town ca parks.' At one time you could tour the placer mine but the last time we visited they were not giving tours (very unstable). The old cemetery is really interesting and like most all old cemeterys is filled with very young people. I think if you lived past 40 you were old in those times. Hi BobD: Thank you also, your right I remember that segment in Carnival but didn't make the connection. I love that series hope it's coming back this fall! I also love Deadwood too. There are many of these old towns studded thoughtout California and Nevada (most not as well preserved as Bodie). Hubby and I were always going to make the old original backroad trip from Bodie to Virgina City, Nevada. Sigh never did...never enough time.
I think because there has been such interest in Bodie I'm going to do one of my other Bodie images. I'm trying to decide whether to do the buckboard or the old wood panel truck or the old car or...... Eventally I'll wind of doing everything in the whole town. The church is really neat too.

I know that when you get that spear shader you will love it. It's just about the only thing I use. Who did you order it from that it is taking so long?

| | Re: Bodie Ghost Town Door Kathy,
I don't know anything aboutthe town of Bodie but I do know that your work is excellent. The changes in the tones as they step down from the window sill to the inner curtain are quite spectacular! There is so much depth in that area!!! I, personnally, would be very proud to hang that one!
I am wondering ... and I don't have the photo in front of me ... would the barn siding to the right of the lantern be as dark or darker then the right side of the window sill. And as you must have a strong light source to create the dark shadows on the right side of the window sill would the lantern cast a shallow shadow shape onto the wall??? Plus you have strong shadows behind the picket fence ... again, do you need a little more darkness behind the lantern to emphasis it?
Just thoughts.

| | Re: Bodie Ghost Town Door Hi Susan: Thank you, also thank you for taking the time to study my values on this work. I do agree with you I missed it totally there should be a dark cast shadow shape on the right side of the lantern. Because it wasn't actually part of the original composition I didn't take the time to study it better. Thank you, I'll see if I can add the cast shadow shape. I did go back and scrape out some of the burn on the two picket fence posts on the right. Will correct the lantern shadow and repost the results. Dave: LOL, you did see the eye--I didn't see it until after it was posted. I thought no one would notice it ![001[1]3424](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/001[1]3424.gif) now you've gone and done it! It's old Bill Body letting folks know he's still around. By the way there is some discussion on how his name was spelled. Body, Bodie, Bodey....The town is named Bodie, the dedication monument spells it Bodey and most likely he spelled it Body. As I understand it a sign painter was commissioned to paint a town name on the side of the stable. Taking artist liberties thought the spelling of Body was not as pleasing as Bodie. Chances are also he may have spent to much time in the local saloon before painting the sign. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL Wade: Your not afraid of ghosts are you? Thanks for looking. So gang should I leave the eye in or take it out?????
