| | Best Burner Brand? I am thinking about buying a burner and was wanting some input on which brand and type with interchangable pens or tips. So let me hear what everyone thinks. Also keep in mind my vision problems for safty and easy to use.

| | Re: Best Burner Brand? Hi Ron, here is a thread from this forum where we discuss Razortip of which I own one. I haven't tried any other's except the standard 'one heat fits all' hot, hot hot. LOL http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/t6772.html
This is just my opinion but I would think the fixed pens would be better for you than the interchangable tips. Less chance of you burning yourself changing tips.
Nedra, Pyrograper carry's the Razortip and one other the name escapes me. You might want to talk to her--also check with Rick at Little Shaver's.
Hope this helps,

| | Re: Best Burner Brand? Ron I agree I have a Razortip and I just love it I have had it for about 10 years last year I found that it wasent getting hot enough so I sent it back to Razortip. They completly rebuilt it and it only cost me $20 Canadian believe me I really abused this machine in fact I had left it out in the rain a few times. The pens just push on and pull off so it makes it really easy. Also within a second of turning off the system the pen has cooled. Nothing but praise for the Razortip great machine. BTW there are two models the single and double burners.

| | Re: Best Burner Brand? Hi Ron,
I have a BurnMaster, two port. It has an amazing heat up/cool down time as well as a very wide range of temp settings. It accepts all other brand handpieces, just push on/pull off. I love it. It is the other brand that Nedra sells that Kathy mentioned.

| | Re: Best Burner Brand? Hi Ron, I don't want to use this forum for advertising but I do use and sell Razertip and Burnmaster and love them both. I would not get interchangeable tips. They are cheaper but they are really only intended for intermittent burning. The heat distribution is not as even as fixed-tip for one thing. Also, the warranty on the Razertip fixed-tip is 1 year, not on the interchangeable. You might want to take a peak at my website and also my new tutorials, "Pyrography 101"

| | Re: Best Burner Brand? I use a Razortip (double pen) works for me. I've a good selection of pens too, and use most of them. I find it reliable, efficient and easy to change pens. They heat up quickly and cool down quickly, so replacement isn't time consuming.

Ron | Hi Ron, you bought the Razortip good for you! I forgot to mention that my Razortip is a duel unit. I have three pens one a large skew (came with the unit), medium writing-tip and large shader. The one I use the most is the writing-tip and second comes the shader. I also bought my unit before I knew Nedra sold them too. I hope you will share your pyrography/woodburnings with us and we're here for ya if you need help or have questions. I like to burn on birch panel. Kathy |

| | Re: Best Burner Brand? Ron, you made a good choice with the Razertip Dual unit. It's a very good burner. The pens I use most are the HD5MP Bent Spear Shader (I use this 99% of the time), F9S writing tip and the HD14SM. I find that I can do just about anything with just these pens. I have never used the 1L that Razertip packs with their burners (they pack mine with the HD5MP). I will admit that there are occasions that I play with some other pens, but it's not out of necessity. Of course I'm strictly a pyrographer and not a carver so I don't use my burner for carving at all. Carvers will find some other pens useful depending on the carving.
