Default #9 is Done - Dancing Dolphins

This one is a little different than the others in that I wasn't going for realism in the dolphins. I was looking for texture, shadow and being able to recognize them as dolphins in a more stylized context. The background is done with the writing nib in pointlism and the rest is done with a medium spoon shader. I took a photo but the lighting (outside) was all wrong so I'll try that again later in the week. I scanned this which is why I couldn't get the whole piece in.

This one is for an adult daughter who loves dolphins and I would appreciate comments on this. Should I have gone for realism?

This pattern is for a relief carving by John Hillyer in his beginner carving book. I have done this as a relief, gave it away as a present a long time ago and I thought it would make a fun pyrography project.

Thanks!

Linda

Whew that's a lot of dots. I don't know how you have the patience for that but I give you a lot of credit. I tried pointilism once on a small piece and found it very tedious can't imagine doing something any bigger but you did a great job. It looks very nice.

Thanks Nedra.

I really enjoy the textures I can create with pointillism so although it is a lot of work I have fun seeing where I can take it through heat settings either using multiple temps or like this one, a single temperature. Now I just need to get my shading better and I might even be happy - probably not, but hey it's worth a try.

Take care
Linda

You can actually accomplish variations of tone without varying the temperature, just using technique such as speed: hold it in place longer for darker, etc. I'm one for not making more work for myself and rarely adjust the temperature, just my technque. I love variations of texture too but usually accomplish it with other techniques not quite as tedious but that's my preference of preferring the easy way of doing things.

Thanks Woodie, I really enjoy the technique because of the texture.

I'm enjoying watching your progress on the portrait, nice work!
