Default #7 In This Journey is Done - Tiger Jewelry Box

Hi everyone,

Here is the project I've been working on this week and it's #7 in this series. This will be for a 13 year old girl and she loves Tigers so I hope she'll enjoy it.

I need your help for the knobs on the two drawers. I'm thinking about getting a couple of Tiger's Stones and attaching to the front. The other options are finding a small black knob or going with a wood ball stained the same as the rest of the box. Your opinions and other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The box itself is pine, (have I mentioned how much I actually don't like pine for burning?), after burning the top I taped it off and stained the rest of the box, inside as well with Varathane's Gel Stain Early American. Once the stain was on I immediately removed the tape on the top. When everything was dry I waxed the piece with Brewax as is my personal preferance.

Thanks

Linda

A couple of small brass knobs would look nice and would go with the tigers color.

linda,

go to your favorite big box home improvement store and look at the drawer pulls and furnature hardware section,
i find lots of things that arnt related to carving or box making there
i especally dont like staining light wood dark and then give it to someone becuse the possibility of a deep scratch could remove the stain and then the preception of the dark ball is discovered to be made out of lighter wood,

a glass, porclin or marble drawer pull would cost a little more but would be something that wouldnt change unless it was very roughly treated, then it could still be replaced in the future.

they have loose loop type drawer pulls that could be used for side carrying handles out of brass
if your thinking about some feet. they have polished metal ball drawer pulls that with a little felt put on the bottom of them could really set off the trunk if you kept metals all simular.

check out the bathroom hardware like the things they have to attach mirrows to the wall they have all kinds of weird things you can use for projets,

great project, who knows in 50 years it might be on the antique road show....
