| | Question for Cindi Joslyn First of all, let me gush. I'm a self-taught carver, basically, and I love your Santas around the world book. And the painting ideas are great, too.
Here's my question: How well do these guys scale up if I moved to 3x3 stock instead of 2X2 and did everything at 150%? Do I keep the clever look you have created? |

| | Re: Question for Cindi Joslyn Hi Capn
So glad you enjoyed Carving Santas from Around the World. Several of the people in my regular carving group have enlarged the patterns to 3 x 3 and were very satisfied with the results. At 4 x 4 I feel the santas need a little more detail and something starts to get lost in the translation. ![004[1]1](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/004[1]1.gif) carving and I would love to see photos of your finished santas.

I don't have a question, I did want to say though that I too really like your book. Now if I could just steal a little time to do some carving!

| | Re: Question for Cindi Joslyn Ok, I'll jump on the Cindi bandwagon now too!
Three pieces of "Cindi Style" done, one in the works.
I'm a struggling beginner, but your books make things a lot easier!
Thanks

| | Re: Question for Cindi Joslyn I agree with MDWine; your instructions and photos really make it easy to see what to do next. So far, I've done the "Space Santa" using 1.5 x 1.5 basswood, which scaled nicely, and the "Shelf Santa with s", and 8 or 9 ornaments from the last issue of WCI.
Thanks for going to the effort of writing the book!
Claude
[edit] I've posted both of the Santas from the book in the Gallery [/edit]

| | Re: Question for Cindi Joslyn Thank you all for your validating comments. I know my carving technique is a little different. It has always worked so well for me and it is gratifying to hear that it works well and is enjoyed by others. I have two more books in the works......one will be out in the fall and another in 2007. Stay tuned!! and happy carving!!!!
