Default Pierre Cloutier wood carver from Quebec

Is there any information about Pierre Cloutier, wood carver from Quebec in the 1960's - 70's and?
How can I find out about his pieces, his prices, his work?

Adrienne,
I am not familiar with Mr. Cloutier but I would watch Ebay for carving done by him. It seems that carving was a typical pastime in Quebec; with several French Canadians. I probably have six carvings from that area and period; but none by your artist.

''Going Home for Christmas'': by Pierre Cloutier, carver from Quebec

1800 (?)
The Windsor Wood Carving Museum

Going Home for Christmas:
Before the construction of trading posts like Pontchartrain, a number of French traders known as coureurs de bois (runners of wood) canoed to far away native villages to get furs. They found themselves in constant danger from the rapids and the lengthy land portages. This particular relief retells the legend of the voyageurs who sold their soul to the Devil in order to get back to their sweethearts in time for Christmas day. Carved from pine by Pierre Cloutier in 1974. Courtesy of Kurt Deeg.

That is a really nice relief, the detail of the people shows the craftman this artist was. Thanks for the info.

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

That shows the level of skill some men had then. I enjoyed the site, any more?

I just checked out The French Connection link listed above and have a question that I just have to ask. I know a little about paddling a canoe or kayak, and it really looks to me like they are paddling the boat they are in backwards! What's going on? There is just no way that I can look at the relief carving and make it look right.

It does kind of look like that doesn't it? But the bow is supposed to be a point, and the top is a point, but the way the bottom is carved makes it look squared off. imo
