Issue #37 Angel paint question

Hello Shawn Cipa, I had alot of fun carving from your angel pattern and now in the painting mode. The blue is a problem for me. Looks like the two blues are blended together in some fashion. If I didn't know better I would say they were airburshed. How did you do it? Wood used is basswood.

Hi - glad you had fun with the angel. No, it is certainly not airbrushed - merely blended together. I keep my colors (acrylic) thinned, so that I may layer them. I applied the lighter baby blue first, and then applied a thin coat of deep blue along the "edges" of the light blue. Using a round wet brush, I then blended the dark into the light. thanks for your inquiry!

Shawn Chipa, I just knew you were going to say that!

I know Oil Painting and I'm learning Acrylics. Oil would be easy to blend as it stays wet for several hrs/days of course Acrylics do not. I will do it though.
Thank you for your quick response. I really felt that was the way you did it and already have the light blue on the wood. I guess I need to get a round brush to do the dark blue.

If you have trouble blending, use a mop brush to pounce the edges where the two colors meet, it will help to feather the colors so that you do not have a distinct edge. Use the mop brush dry. With practice, you could learn how to double load your brush to blend the paints. ( they also make an acrylic retarder that extends the drying time)
